Well, so you know what I started this thread for:
Does anyone here know of some good graphics programs and/or books to learn how to use them? Google searches are unnecessary as I'm trying to find out what you think are the best. Thanks for any help. (wonder what happened?)
Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive (the dang thing blew up)

Hi Kezil,
There's all kinds of programs out there. I think you should get the GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program). You can use it to edit photos, draw pictures, create logos, and other stuff. You can get it for Windows or Linux (Comes with most Linux Distros). And it's free. For cheap people like me that's a big plus! There is on-line help to learn how to use it, but a book I have is called "GIMP for Web Professionals," by Michael J. Hammel, published by Prentice Hall, 2001.

There are others out there as well, like Procreate's Painter, Adobe's Photoshop, JASC's Paint Shop Pro, and others of the same nature. But the GIMP, like Preacherman481 said, is free, and works just like Photoshop (except it takes up less memory).
GIMP: http://www.gimp.org
Adobe Photoshop: http://www.adobe.com/store/products/photoshop.html
Procreate's Painter: http://www.procreate.com/
JASC's Paint Shop Pro: ftp://ftp.jasc.com/pub/psp704ev.exe or http://www3.jasc.com/pub/psp704ev.exe

I recommend Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Limited Edition...
Great for editing and creating original masterpieces.
