Its just a prank on a friend who hosts a small little server for personal use.
Bringing down a server isn't viewed as a prank around here. It's a very serious offence and isn't tolerated as acceptable behavior. and this site is for the good guys.... although it tends to attrack both, but it's for the good guys.

thank you deb. i already did. thanks for the tip and i really do understand how the sysadmins must feel. im not a sysadmin, im a biochemist and a financial analyst and a computer programmer by hobbie. so i will relate to how you guys feel about me posting what i did on your site.
i apologize to everyone! i certainly never thought it would cause such commotion. anyway, hope everyone has hack-free day!

Well, in my opinion this is a security site against hacking, but it is also promoting hacking by allowing users to figure out thier system therefore giving them inside information that will eventually lead them to gather that infiltrating other peoples systems will benefit them to further their knowledge of OS's...

IIS win2k server
ok, taking debs advice, let me dive in then. im a newbie obviously. i have a win2kserver running a few sites. i have most services turned off because i realize they are an easy entrypoint. i like working on my server from remote locations. so i started looking into it and found out about iis html thing and the iis remote snapin. i understand the remote snapin(mmc) is only for intranets and that html is for internet remote admin. i tried it but i cant remember, i dont think i liked the interface. seemed kinda complicated. so i used the ftp site for some time but this was kinda insecure cause at the time i didnt understand much about IIS security and NTFS security. so i moved on to terminal services and thats what i use at the moment.
my question is more about which is best for administering a service remotely? the actual iis html site thingie? is that really secure? i remember it used a special port, 3951 or something. which i cant remember if it was under SSL, but in order to use SSL i think i ran into the problem of certificates which i had to buy? cant i just make a certificate?

im sorry everyone, but playing a prank on your friend is usually just plain funny. i'm a net admin for a tiny biz, but i can still see the humor in your prank, mars. as long as it doesnt turn into a hobbie, a little messing with people heads can be just the thing for a boring afternoon.
i'm not sure about the certificate thing, but there is plenty of software that will allow you to remotely admin. most you have to configure on both computers. i dont know if this will help but here are a few links…

Mars123... you're a great guy and very clever also. The problem is we get alot of people over here who ask things like how to 'hack' hotmail to find out if his/her girlfriend is still loving him and you get a bit pissed if people ask that on a SECURITY site crammed full with sysadmins who desperatly trie to keep does guys OUT of their servers.
I dont understand why people gave you negative antipoints for just being honest, but i understand why they're pissed.

mars alot of annoying little shits come on and say stupid things like " comeo n give me negs i want them this way i get banned and win" i, IMO thats really arrogant if someone doesnt like the site or its members why stay there? Why not leave and save us all some nerves. Dont get me wrong I'm not telling u to leave lol
