    M$ to release source code

    Before you get your hopes up, they aren't going to release it all...just 385 portions of it. I'm going along with the line of thought that this move is to satisfy the court system in hopes that it will take the teeth out of the suit filed by the dissenting states. According to M$, this move will make it easier for developers to have 'additional choices' when developing apps for Windows based machines without releasing enough to make it possible to 'clone' windows, which would force M$ to stop doing 'R&D' on the OS. IMHO, the 'cloning' of windows would be the best thing that could happen to the OS, as in those circumstances, someone might actually get it right....FINALLY.     So basically there going to release the source code to note pad, minesweeper and a few other bits of useless code, then tell every one there contributing to open source.
    Its not software piracy. I’m just making multiple off site backups.

    lol Yeah, you did hit the nail on the head than the other companies will just whine about wanting more and useful code and M$ will tell them to shove it. This is funny..

    I'm gonna change one line of MineSweeper and call it JSweeper. The same goes for Notepad, Solitaire and Windows XP.

    Well just maybe someone can figure out their style of coding through the code they release. It might just be of some help... maybe! but M$ can be so twisted no one may be able to detect anything...

    May be they’ll be extra mean and release the code in asm with no documentation.

    Microsoft said it plans to disclose 385 bits of computer code and internal operating rules, previously kept secret, that outside software developers can use to write programs to run on Windows.


    perhaps they will LITERALLY release 385 seperate bits, randomly sampled from throughout the OS code...something like:
    0xAC2415 1
    0x15215C 0
    0x00A101 1
    ect...
    -8-

    Seriously, this could help Microsoft.
    People will start sending in patches and improvements.
    Maybe if they get some positive response, they will release
    more code, and the OS will rapidly improve.
    I've got one suggestion already. Change the name
    to linux.
    I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.
