Mavica disk drive replacement
A friend of mine dropped his Mavica FD73 in some sand and now (surprise!), it won't work. Repair estimates start at about $220. I took the camera apart and cleaned all the sand out, everything looks alright, except it's giving the message about a disk error. The lens, screen, and function buttons all operate correctly, so I'm assuming the disk drive was the only thing seriously damaged.
The disk drive is a TEAC FD-01H, apparently this drive is built only for the Mavica cameras and is not available, at least I couldn't find any for sale. I read in one Mavica forum that a Mitsumi D353G drive could be used in the earlier Mavicas. I was wondering of anyone out there has any experience with Mavica repair and hopefully could point me in the right direction to get a replacement drive.
Thanks.
