it is collection of various updates available round the year as well some enhancement packed in single package . so u don't need unless u have regularly updated ur software . instead use catchup(cnet.com)or something similar to get required updates only :-)

I heard somewhere that SP1 was going to contain JAVA support but only to be taken out in SP2. Is this true? And if so why is that?

I downloaded sp1....I rebooted....then I got a error message "your messing something.dll"...so I just reformated and reinstalled windows. It wasn't on my main computer so it was ok. But has anyone heard of a error coused by installing sp1 like this? If so is there a work around?
sorry not to give more info on the problem but I didn't write down the message.

dev_ocean: XP SP1 contains much more than just the simple patches and security update which Microsoft has released over time. They have re-written a great deal of the code, added support for more hardware, fixed inherent problems which could not be resolved with patches, and updated the overall stability of the OS.
Here are some easier links (than downloading the 133 MB file)
Official Microsoft XP SP1 Site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...p1/default.asp
Express Install:

Network (full) Install:

Also, for those who don't have XP, but do use Internet Explorer 6, SP1 for that was released as well:
