What you are talking about is a problem that has started to concern M$ (yes they do get concernd about users problems!!!) A company has managed to find a way to use the system administrator message tool and sells the software to let companies do this for about £300 To disable it you also need to disable the feature of most common networkable windows. Its simple to fix.

for those of you who dont want to have to go through 2 sites to find the answer, this works in xp anyway i know
get a dos / command prompt going and type 'net stop messenger' and 'net stop rpclocator'
then in XP (not sure for '98 2k etc), go to your admin tools, from there go to services and scroll down to both 'messenger' and 'rpc locator' and disable and stop both of them, this will prevent these annoying things from being received (thats the theory at least :-)

I posted this on another thread relating to the same problem. There's a tool, small download, that will turn of messenger and a bunch of other things Bill and company seem to think we need that let them invade our computers.

There's a screenshot and simple instructions that even I understood. It comes with preset rules, but you can add to or change them with the click of a box. Haven't had a problem since I downloaded it. It runs only with xp, I think.

There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect...There is no escape from it, we are forever slaves to it. Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the 'why'. 'Why' is what separates us from them, you from me. 'Why' is the only real social power, without it you are powerless.
