Hey people, I would really like to know how I can stop people from hacking my system. I have tried firewalls and the hackers that are good enough always manage to get through my firewalls. If anybody out there used to have the same problem or agrees that the firewalls do not stop hackers plz help me find out how i can stop this, or give me some suggestions or a way to stop hackers from entering my system. I will really appreciate it.

Hey ebo. Welcome to AO. Could you give us some more info? How about how did they get in? How did you find out? What was done? You know, give us the gory details so we can try to help. Also, give us an idea of what your configuration was at the time.

See firewalls help, but like you said, not all the time. There are many forms of attacks, and if you are looking for ways to protect yourself from hackers or to help better secure your box, you should look around at some of the tutorials in the tutorials section. My suggestion's would be too long, but basically it's this: Make sure you have a decent firewall, make sure you make regular updates to the firewall, make sure you have a good Antivirus product and that you update it, always update your software for the latest version's or patches, Don't run services you don't need (netBIOS if you aren't on a network, HTTP/FTP if not serving web, etc), make sure the passwords to any account on your computer are strong and secure, make general backup's of data, Don't use Windows , Make regular scan's on your system for trojans, spyware, virii, etc, and use common sense. If there are some I left out, which I know I did, then please post it here so we can help him. I know I left some out, but I can probably make a book on how to better your security. Hope I helped!

I find out that they have been in my computer becasue i am always missing a file. Also when i am on aim or surfing the web somebody else is clicking around on my computer and doing something totally different. Sometimes they use my system to hack other people that is really my main concern becasue soon or later i will get in trouble for what i didn't do. I think they use ftp or they hijack my Ip I'm not really sure. I really don't know what my comfiguration was when thet do it but i will try to see if i can remember. Here's a solution if they are using ftp. Go to the command prompt (MS-DOS) and type ftp and press enter. Then type open and press enter. Then put 127.0.0.1 and press enter. Tell me what it says. If it say's something like ftp:connect:1020 or something of that nature, there is no ftp server on your computer which would mean they can't hack you through the ftp port.
