What is the antionline project wargame?
I remember back a few years ago...a friend and I would set a weekend aside and we'd both open the netbus trojan on our systems....they were ready to be formatted and they were safe/clean systems made for this....anyway...we'd just spend hours playing all kinds of tricks on eachother...it was a hell of a lot of fun........I'd modify his windows registry to open every executable in his windows folder and he's force my system to visit gayporn sites against its willl.....The anti-online wargames are nothing like that are they?

Im not sure if AO wargames are up but most of the wargames I seen are alot like a game of capture the flag. You have to steal a file then cypher it if it has any encriptions then e-mail what it says to whoever runs the game. Or just plain test out the box's vulnerabilities.

Its not as fun if you purpossly weaken the security on your box & install trojans. That should come afterwards so you'll keep root.

The ones I've played have all been like Spec said, the ole test out the boxes vulnerabilties. . .I figured he would set up some systems, give just a smidgeon of info and let us loose on them, but I don't really know, haven't seen anything about it posted on the site.

War games are fun and all,but if you want a realistic challange without having to worry about prison time,I'd get together with a couple of friends and have a true open hack on each others boxes with the security features you would normally have in place(ie. firewalls,AV's,spyware revoval tools,real passwords,and all that good stuff)Putting a login screen in front of your face and saying get past this can give you some limited skills,but it limits creativity,because in all actuality there's many more ways than that to compromise a system.I would highly recommend making sure you have all of the backups and CD's needed to get your box back into working order and seperated from your computer before attempting anything along those lines.

The fun part about this is that the game adjusts itself to your skill level.If you exploit a hole in a friends system than they(...at least if they have half a brain)patch that hole so you can't go that route again,so you have to use your brain a little more than most war games make you.

Not to say there's not war games out there that don't require a pretty large amount of skill,but beating a war game level that is constant and set for a specific task to by-pass it is no substitute for a real life open hack/counter hack chess match.

As far as I know, the Wargame project has been launched for 1 year but has never been realised.
I think that they were not enough people implicated in it.

Full of typos... LOL whoever gave this out needs to take a bit of his own advise or stop smokeing his mom's crack and let the peaple with un-damaged braincells do what they need to do.

OK guys, don't get in a pissing match. Typos Happen (ie. there's no "e" in smoking). I too, tend to judge based on spelling in posts (even though I also make them), but I've had to ignore most of the misspellings, etc., because they're everywhere.

As far as you original post, I think a wargame would be fun. I'm a total newbie and am wondering how to test my systems. Having an outside computer to "practice" on would be good. I can read all I want in books/posts, but I learn more from doing, not by reading.

there is nothing useful about these wargames the only thing you learn is how to crack into
people z box or how to crack stupid java scripts ......and most of them are used for collecting information about hackers/crackers ,people setup such games to monitor
your activities.
