Ok, first,
i was wondering, for you all here, whats the Longest system uptime youv ever had?
like, for your main system you use, (if you have more than one) Whats the longest uptime youv ever had?

(if youv ran more than one OS, whats the longest uptime you had for each one?)

second, i found this website and i know some of you use BSD and thought it was pretty helpful so im posting it for you to look at.

Third, i made this post in my journal but no one responded, this was the post:

"Hey all, iv been looking around today at OSs that you dont normally hear about (like atheOS) and was looking at Linux and a few BSD types, anyone that reads this,in your opinion, What is the most stable OS? Reliable? best all around? best for multimedia? best for programming? easiest to install? cheapest besides free? most expensive? and of course your personal favorite? for me, id say secure wise, open BSD and FREE BSD, for multi media, id say windows XP and BeOS, for stability, Well, any UNIX OS, windows 2,000, and believe it or not, i rarely have a problem with windows 98 SE, i know you may think thats just totally messed up but ok for example, iv been able to stay on aim alone for like over 40 hours, without lagging crashing or nothin, some people find that very hard to believe lol. for programming, windows and UNIX types in My opinion, easiest install would have to be, well, any windows, and BeOS was pretty easy, and Linux mandrake, as for favorite...**** i duno, and for cheapest, (no freebies) id say windows 98 SE, or dos back in the day, and the most expensive...hmmm windows XP, 2,000 and the windows datacenter server edition which iv seen at like 15,000 dollars per processor (whoa) anyway i hope people read this and reply, but if not ill prolly post this cause im curiouse as to your opinions."

Well, hopefully some of you that avnt ever heard od FREE BSD check that out, i bought a BSD power pack a few years ago, i really shouldv waited to install (its not "easy" but oh well) i wasnt to good with computers yet because i hadnt had one for very long, but as soon as i get my laptop im gunna try getting it instaled on there and i wanna buy another desktop to and have that runing a couple OSs

FreeBSD is my favorite. I think many of us here know of BSD's even though a few use it. Many shift to BSD after trying out Linux.Its a bit rough on the installation side, but its as easy as linux if read all the manuals/handbook.

I've been using FreeBSD 4.7 and I also using SuSE Linux 8.1 prof for my personal laptop.
At home I have open BSD 3.2....this is very cool Os for me cause I have to build this OS from almost blank screen( I can say look like window maker or blackbox for Linux) to complete OS..so I have to add my own KDE,etc..

I can't answer this question cause I'm just learning my OS *nix ..two a month ago

Hey not to get to far off, but what kinda laptop do you have? im getting a laptop and i wanna be able to run *NIX OSs on it besides the XP itll come with, like what brand and style laptop do you have that on? i bought Suse linux 8.1 professional a lil while back and i wanna use it on the laptop to, and thanks in advance!

The longest uptime I've personally had was probably 2-3 months, but I've never had a linux or BSD system crash on me. Unfortunately, my apartment is rather small and power supplies are limited so I move my systems around a lot. However, just as an interesting sidenote, one of the systems I admin at work has been up for 785 days and counting. It's an HP-UX system running 10.x. Solid as a rock, and about as interesting. It's a rarely used print hub.

Personally, the longest uptime I've had is 1 month, 6 days with redhat 7.3 before a power cut finished that run off.

BTW, did you know 43 out of the 50 sites with the longest uptimes run on BSD, or one of it's variants? Only 2 run Windoze.

10:04AM up 123 days, 18:02, 1 user, load averages: 0.09, 0.08, 0.08

Good uptime shows system/OS stability, unbeliveably great uptime (often) shows lax admining: not applying patches (to kernel, requireing reboot) to preserve an "awsome uptime" isn't smart admining...
