What the Hell is going on with MS, when I brought MS XP Home and Pro I read what it said on the box. Did it say 'Im going to load loads of crap on your system and install and open every type of hack entry point possible, Ha Ha'. No it did not, it did say on the other hand, 'The most robust and secuir OS to date', AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. And another thing does it say anywhere on the box or whilst installing, creat a user password " "NOW", "do not i repeat do not connect that DSL Untill you creat a user password". AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I sorry, did someone say; "so you got hacked". Do remote desktops fall into the catogory of hacking. Errrrrrrrrr, no I dont think so; I think that falls into the catogry of stupid user number 8755392924848458. weklzsdfndzfn'pouearpdzfcvx xxxxxx, I need help and sedation.
I got 4 problems;
1. XP Pro on my system;
2. XP Home on the kids;
3. NET Server out in the shed
4. wife with the sexual appite of a Rabbit
The NET Server I can disconnect untill i understand it, the wife I can dose up with tranquillizers. But both me and the kids need to get on the net, does any one know which services I need to turn off to prevent any further intrution. Me and the kids have a firewall Norton Internet Security, (which seems to invite all sorts round for tea), and all systems are independent of each other no shares. All systems are behiend a lynksys router bers41, and the server is on a DMZ with AVG virus and Zone Alarm pro. I have found out the wife has been crusing porn sites, and the kids download any games thay can. we all have administraters rights, as XP OS will not run games otherwise. Man I miss RH, but it won't run the games. if anyone can save me please do, and i thank you.

oddball: ditch the .NET server (and/or the wife)

a .NET server should never be used (unless the boss forces you to)
it will consume more time then a wife with the appetite discribed above..

download a linux/unix for dummies book and get to it..
create the server(s) / router(s) / firewall of your dream(s)

as for the XP boxes.. the linux/unix box you are gonna create will secure them better then the average hardware/software firewall !!

One post is from an Antionline Senior Member with over 900 posts and one is from an Antionline Newbie with less than 15...as a Newbie myself you can probably guess which opinion I am more likely to respect.

th_jinX didn't express his political opinion in his post nor try to make the thread political. What he puts in his signature is his business. I am sure there are plenty of people on both sides of the hostilities fence within AO- especially being such a global forum and not strictly American.

Here's your solution. Install Red Hat Linux again, then install VMWare, install you Windows XP on top of VMWare, now the kids can play the games, you'll have your kick ass operating system, don't have to spend so much time on the computer and now you can spend more time with the wife.
