Thumbs up Open source port scanner

Hello all of you AOers. For some time now I've been programing stupid crap and I was doing some cleaning and thats when I realized I actually had some good stuff in my PC. I made this ummmm.... I dunno awhile ago... I can't remember I must have been like 13 - 15 back then. Anyways... it works theres some bugs when you try and exit while in the middle of a scan and there are a few other things that need fixing. Besides being slow and bugy its alright I guess. Here ya go edit it, examine it, improve it, or tottaly C&P it as your own if you want to... heck I don't care anymore.

Anyways I tested it and my ISP
That doesnt' sound like a very good course of action. Don't you have a LAN you can test stuff like that on? It'd be a lot safer, and you could validate the results.

Port scanning your ISP might not go down too well.

No I don't have lan and the room is so small that I mostly just grab floppies like in the sneaker net days except I only have to walk like 2 feet across the room. I could of course just scan myself but that got boreing & all... & That was a long time ago and they haven't shutdown my service and as far as I know its perfectly legal in this part of the world. You see alot of ISPs here also has this scam where they slowdown your connection speeds and things so you'll be forced to use their broadband service. I toy around with my PC more than I browse the web most of the time so it really doesn't matter to me weather if im online or off. But enought about me... if anyone else is doing it then stop... I don't think the syn is enought to DoS anything but your ISP might stop serving you and call a few other ISPs and tell them about your weird net activities. They might think your a intruder or something...

BTW did you try? Did you like it?

Why re-invent the wheel? There are so many open source port scanners already, surely you can create something that does something different.

Also, writing a *good* port scanner isn't very easy, you probably won't do very well.

So what do you want me to do? Drop every project I'm going to do due to the possablility of it being to hard or not matching the quality of other peaple's work? No offence but I call that being a 'wussie'.

LOL Slarty, You sure know how to boost a guy's confidence in codeing.... Why re-invent the wheel? Well why do peaple restore/customize cars even if the car isn't rare? Maybe because instead of whineing about how other peaple need to create new, never before seen, non-existant programs.... or adding things to make it look 'cooler' then what the next guy is doing... Maybe instead of all that worrying about what others are/aren't doing I'd much rather just sit back and do whatever I feel like doing & I don't care about other peaple.

Computers are nothing more than a hobby to me... I don't take anything that I do seriosly here. Oh and hey Im sorry if you were expecting something "so brilliant" that it goes beyond any thinkable zero-days....

    Nice work Specialist!

Thanks for sharing your work with the community. it takes balls to display ones coding to an technically educated audience like this.

You can have an option to do a UDP scan by leaving the protocol property blank, adding a check box to the form and define it at the beginning of the of the Command1() sub. IF checkboxvalue = true sock.protocol = 1 ELSE sock.protocol = 0

    Hope that helps
