    When you say that the other 2000 boxes can see the server, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying that they can see it in Network Neighborhood, or are they just able to ping and telnet to the server? I think that part needs to be clarified for us to help you more. Also, maybe you could give us an idea of what else is running on the Linux server???

    another suggestion to add...
    try and ping the box you are having trouble with FROM the server as well as pinging to the server, if your server can ping your box it still could be a server issue, do you have a firewall enabled on the 2k box at all?

    2 firewalls can cause hell with this kinda setup, so that could also be a problem, the firewall on linux could be blocking your machines ip as well, could really be a number of things but these 2 are the most common

    Without speaking to your original problem, when you are able to telnet in, you'll want to (seriously) consider cutting over to OpenSSH, testing it, then shutting off telnet. It's insecure.
