your cd exploded in the drive? I suspect daemons, probably sent by SATAN. I suggest you get a SAINT.

for the drivers, try the MICRO Innovations website, you can probably download them from there.

(Note: In all seriousness, you may want to get your cd drive checked (unless this is just some random unavoidable event in the lower ranges of probability. anyone?))
Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive (the dang thing blew up)

If you're cdrom drive is a Samsung 40-52x, then this is a documented problem NOT COVERED by warranty. Get a new drive.

Was it the Drive or the CD-ROM Disk itself.. This appears to be a common problem especially as cgkanchi commented with 40 -52x drives more so with the 52x .. normally it is a problem with the Disk itself, a scratch, crack or a imperfection in the disk (a weak area or a bubble in the plastic) and with the hi rotational speeds, the disk litteraly explodes with debris imbeading in the computer and near situated objects including the user.. Sony has placed a warning on its drives for the past 2 years that I am aware of.

Just to name a few links on the matter of "Exploding" CD-ROM's

Und3ertak3r, I do know that Sony has placed a warning on it's CD-ROM drives for the past two years, but I've only ever seen this problem with Samsung drives. It seems to have been fixed with more recent ones (especially the writers) though. I'd like to know if you or anyone else has ever seen this problem on any other make of drive.

Then i might suggest like others have said get a new drive. I have NEVER heard of this problem. Im heading to google now. I gota find some kinda documentation on this type of thing.

The Samsung problem appeared to be because of a "Spin shaft/Assembly"/"Spin" Motor Balancing problem. That is either with the CD centering or the assembly not properly balanced.. same result..
HAve only seen the results twice.. both Omni 52x drives.. One just a broken cd in the Tray. The other managed to slice into the side of the Drive case, as well leave a shard poking out the front of the tray.. In both cases our suspicions were that the CD's had pre-existing damage..
I've seen just enough to know it happens.. but its happened to enough PPL that it sounds like an Urban Legend
