Artificial Intelligence-What would it be
I am intrigued by the concept of artificial intelligence. And just what would constitute a sentient being.
Could a being that is classified as a 'machine' be sentient, and or self aware?
What would its status be?
Could it be a citizen, or would it still be property?
Would it be the 'ultimate hacker', able to go anywhere, and do anything it was told, or wanted to do?
Would it be trustworthy, or would it take on the characteristics of its creators?
Comments?

did you maybe watch " Terminator 3" cause i got kind of the same questions in my mind after watching it ....
if the robot would have its own feelings and intelligence ( to learn just like humans) they should be trusted .....

Lucerne Valley man patents ethical artificial intelligence
Imagine calling a customer service line and speaking to an operator who, after listening to not just your questions, but your tone of voice and overall attitude, is able to determine where she should most appropriately direct your call.

"ethical " ??? That, I believe, is a misuse of the word. I really didn't see anything in the artical where ethics applied, but rather emotions, voice stress analisis, and keyword look-up.
Still, its a good idea and could be expanded to replace almost any of the bloody interactive menues that I seem to run into daily. Maybe I wouldn't be held on hold so long that way.....boy, am I dreaming.
Wonder if they will pass a law that AI driven voice menues announce that they are AI's and not a real human.

I also wonder if laws would have to be passed to somehow constrain AI so they would not gain access to other forms of AI...so they wouldnt share data with each other and learn through that way...that's just a thought.

There is a movie called AI(Artificial Intellegence) Where they make robot look and act like real people. They have feelings (sort of) and are able to move and learn. You train it to love, mind and be comited to you. In the movie they end up lasting longer than thier owners. Anyways it was a good movie, you should see it.

The movie AI was an interesting look at how mankind didn't seem to be ready to handle the consequences of Artificial Intelligence...I'm not going to say what it was, but what did you think of how the film turned out in the end ZombieGirl78? Do you think some of the events in the film could achieve reality at some point in the future? I have mixed thoughts about it...thanks for any input from anyone who's seen it.

There are a lot of exples that could be what AI is like:
Data (curious) from Star Trek
Marvin (depressive) from the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy
and the Kid from AI (obsessive)
I think that for the most part we could controlling in Asimov's laws, but If we can program them, are they really sentient or intelligent? They will provably end up like wierd humans if we ever achieve it.
Not all those who wander are lost.
