mac filesystem
i hav a powerpc 5500/225 which im installing 0s 8.5 so i can install linux.
it had an ide hdd
the hdd had went out so i put a different one in
it doesnt see the hdd all it sees is the cdrom
what tools are there that i can boot from so i can make a file system
keep in mind im a mac stupid
work it harder, make it better, do it faster, makes us stronger

Using the Mac OS 8 CD, create a startup Disk Tools disk. To make a Disk Tools disk, open the Disk Tools folder on the Mac OS 8 CD, then open the Make Disk Tools floppies application. When you startup from the Disk Tools disk, you will then be able to run the Mac OS 8 Installer from the CD. (This will only work with Apple CD-ROM drives).

You should be able to look on the cd to find some sort of utility/bootdisk thing that will let you format your hd to the correct filesystem. Hope this helped. Good luck.

can i use a regular floppy cause i tried some befor but they all say there bad disks on mac

ive tried 5 ibm formatted disks
do i need mac formatted disks and if so would i be able to get them at Staples or OfficeMAx?

Yes, you need Mac formatted floppies. They should be available most places.
You might be able to re-format PC disks to Mac, assuming that you have a
a working Mac to do it on. Assume that at least some disks will fail to
re-format successfully.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.
