    Red face damn the pop-ups

I work for Marquette University's IT department and today i ran across a problem i had trouble figuring out. im hoping somebody out there can offer up a solution.

the computer runs popups after the PC has been up and running for X amount of time(even when unplugged from the network) ... i have run spybot search and destroy, as well as ad-aware, and it has updated virus scanning software that has been run. i have checked the registry(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) and the start up folders...all the files here are legit. in the command prompt i have run 'netstat -a' and there is nothing out of the ordinary. im really really stupmped as to what could be the problem...i have not checked autoexec.bat...could this be a possible problem???

any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
