You only have to do the subnetting if the router doesn't support Network Address Translation, or NAT (most do support NAT). With NAT, all you have to do is set the PCs to use a dynamically assigned IP (DHCP).
Windows 9x: n. A collection of 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor. Written by a 2 bit company that can\'t stand 1 bit of competition.

There's really no easy simple way to explain subnetting, as it can get complex once you get away from standard subnetting and start talking about VLSM and supernetting. With that said, try these links for info on subnetting, as well as TCP/IP in general:

    http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc0791.txt

    http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1918.txt?number=1918

    http://www.learntcpip.com

    http://www.learntosubnet.com

    http://www.protocols.com

    http://www.ralphb.net/IPSubnet/

    http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6287

    http://www.jackmccarthy.com/TCPIP/IPTable/

    Hope they help
