    Post Seting Up an ISP

    Hello All,

Any of you guys ever setup an ISP?? If so, could you PLEASE Write a Tutorial about your experience. Thanks, OR could you just tell here how you did it, and What Specifically is needed, with all of the defining details. I Have Just Read the White Paper on this from Patton Electronics, But I was looking for someone who has actually set up an isp, and Operated one....

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

You want to provide service to others? You have to decide do you want OSP(Online Service provider)(with other features and services) or ISP(Inernet Service provider).

A simple google search will provide you with enough information to keep you reading for a long time.

And here is a book you will probably need:
Developing IP-Based Services: Solutions for Service Providers and Vendors

And here is a course offered by MSN on the subject:
Developing XML Web Services Using Microsoft ASP.NET

Hope some of this helps you.....of course the reading is up to you.

I have set up 2 ISPs and am running one now. First off you will need hardware, what do you have for servers, modems for dial in customers, are you planning on any wireless or DSL, ISDN? Can you have fiber brought to your location or are you planning on using copper T1's?
Do you have a good router, IDS, Firewall? What OS do you plan to use for your network? Answer some of these for us and this can be an interesting thread. I never thought of a tut for this... maybe I will start working on one.
I have a question; are you the bug, or the windshield?
