sharing internet connection by using a router
I'm have problem to connect the second pc to the internet. I want to share a internet connection by using a cable router.
The router i use is an DSL\Cable router from E-Tech type RTBRO3. It is setup for DHCP.
As OS i use w98. For for ip adres i use 192.168.1.2. and 192.168.1.3 generated by DHCP.
The gateway and DHCP is using 192.168.1.1 subnetmask is 255. 255.255.0.
When using winipcfg it shows also the hostname and DNS.
The cable attached from pc 2 to the router has been tested with a cabletester because the cable is home made. The lights on the router indicates that ther is a connection to both pc's.
So the question is what am i missing in the picture?
TIA

Ok so you let your computer that your having problems with obtain an IP automatically from the router right?
go to the dos prompt and type this
ipconfig /all
tell me what it says.

one other thing... the home made cable you have ... did you make it as a cross over cable or a patch cable? If it's a cross over cable then the router will show that a conection has been made but the 2nd PC won't be able to connect because the wires are in the wrong order... just a thought

its ipconfig /all
so that ipconfig /(forward slash)all
But if its working now, then no need to worry about that.

problem solved
The solution for the problem not connecting to the router was the incorrect driver for the nerwork adaptar on the second pc.
I had to reinstall the os and then solved the problem.
thanks all
