here's what is listed there :

ankur Bangla Live! Desktop's core is based on Morphix and Knoppix, while the main system is based on Slackware Linux. It runs a localized (Bangla) version of GNOME 2.4, with some extra customizations and features.

arch For i686 pc only (devfs device system). This live CD is a pre-installed Arch Linux 0.5 developed by AMLUG. Its a compressed image (zisofs) of the Arch Linux distribution maintaining AL's native lightweight and speed (though CD-ROM will slow it down)

byzantineOS is a software Internet Appliance with a home entertainment bias. It is based on a networked Linux distribution/bootable system with Mozilla providing access to a range of services and applications.

demolinux is dedicated to the production of CD Roms (the DemoLinux CDs) that allow to run Linux without installation, disk partitioning and other hassles that usually prevent people from giving Linux a try.

f.i.r.e is a portable bootable cdrom based distribution with the goal of providing an immediate environment to perform forensic analysis, incident response, data recovery, virus scanning and vulnerability assessment.

gnoppix is a linux live cd based upon Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody). It can be compared to Knoppix but GNOPPIX uses GNOME as desktop environment.

knoppix is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it.

knoppix-std is a customized distribution of the Knoppix Live Linux CD. Boot to the CD and you have Knoppix-STD. That would include Linux kernel 2.4.20, KDE 3.1, incredible hardware detection and hundreds of applications. Boot without the CD and you return to your original operating system. Aside from borrowing power, peripherals and some RAM, Knoppix-STD doesn't touch the host computer.

las is a 'Live CD' distribution with a small footprint. Containing over 200 information security and administration related tools. As well as a full desktop environment and office productivity applications. With such a small footprint L.A.S. Linux can be optionally loaded and run from physical RAM (assuming there is 256MB or more). We currently have 2 different versions of L.A.S. to fit two specific size requirements.

mandrake move The MandrakeMove Download Edition is a new product based on Mandrake Linux 9.2 which provides a complete personal desktop operating system on a bootable CD. With MandrakeMove, bring your Mandrake Linux system everywhere: demo it, use it to connect to the Internet, listen to MP3s, watch DivX movies -- the possibilities are endless! In addition, the MandrakeMove Boxed Edition provides the ability to save configuration and personal data to a USB key.

morphix ISO's with XFCE4, Gnome2.4, KDE3.1, a game iso and a large number of derivatives are available. Morphix is an Open Source/Free software project, based on Debian GNU/Linux and Knoppix.

phlak is a modular live security Linux distribution. PHLAK comes with two light gui's (fluxbox and XFCE4), many security tools, and a spiral notebook full of security documentation. PHLAK is a derivative of Morphix, created by Alex de Landgraaf.

slax is a bootable CD containing Linux operating system. It runs Linux directly from CDROM without installing. The live CD described here is based on Slackware GNU Linux distribution and is downloadable from this website as an ISO. There are also available all scripts and source codes, which can be used to build your own live CD.

the packet master Security and forensic utilities - TPM Linux has a wide selection of open-source security auditing utilities and computer forensic toolkits. Since the programs can all be run from the CD, nothing needs to be installed on the system in order to collect evidence, helping to ensure the evidence isn't damaged in any way.

I've been using Mepis Linux as a permanent installation for the past few months and it is the best so far for that purpose. It also is a live cd and I've found it is the most useful of all the live cd's- very easy to use and can interact very easily with windows installations. Also, it is able to load raid and lvm pretty well, too. Mepis

I got morphix on the cover of a pc mag. I found it to be a lot better than i thought live distros would be. I would have to get myself i slackware based live cd next.

I realize that this thread is a little outdated but I just found this great site and didn't really think that I should create a whole new thread for it since there have already been several threads on this topic.

It's a very nice site; bigger list of live distros than I've seen anywhere else. You can also sort the list into specific categories such as desktop, firewall, security, etc.

I apologize if this is bad (bringing back an old thread)....

Yep, just go to one of the live cd links above, find a distro that sounds good, go to the home page of that distro, and there should be a download link somewhere on the site.

I hope you have broadband internet, cause those files can be pretty damn big luckily a lot of the live ones aren't quite as big as 'regular' distros because they must fit on a single cd (some can even fit on a floppy or one of those mini-cd). If you do have dialup and you want to get a large ISO, you'll make your life a lot easier by getting a download manager like GetRight so that you can pause and resume downloads.
