Question about thermal issues when upgrading from 133 to 800MHz FSB

I'm currently on a 733MHz P3 with a 133mhz fsb, given the age and lack of bearable performance, I'm going to be upgrading to a P4@2.8 GHz with 800mhz fsb & new ram. The psu I have right now is only 250 watt and doesn't have a P4 power connector, so I'm gonna need to replace that too. My case is only a mid-tower atx, so space is kinda short, and I don't know that there's room to add more fans in unless I wanna do some modding. What I'm wondering is, if I use my old case, currently working fine only with 1 intake fan in the front and the psu as the "outtake", and upgrade to a psu with 2 fans (still be used for air expulsion), will I be ok with heat issues? I'm asking this because my dad emailed the guy he bought the comp from back in 1999 (the guy sells comps for a living), and the guy said that the old cases he used aren't "rated" to handle the large amount of heat put out by an 800mhz fsb. Most other people I've talked to say I'd be fine, but, there have been one or 2 that said I'm going to need another fan or 2...just trying get more opinions on what people think would be best.

Here are some pics if you want a better idea of what I'm talking about

YOu should be ok with that case, but if I were you, I would spend about $50 on a newer case with at least a 300watt PS.

I've been hearing a lot of "you want a case that has a fan slot under the psu", so I think I'm going to just get a new case. And I'm going to get a seperate psu, probably one with 2 fans.

Usually I just buy a Case with the PS already on it. and then you can buy an extra case fan.

I never have problems with heat. A key to not letting you system get to hot is to also get a good CPU fan. A fan that I love and keeps my system at a cool 70 degrees is the zalman line of copper heat sinks. I love it.

heres a good website to check out some prices.

Omg, I have (well had) a case just like that. Thought I'd never see that old beast again. I had one hell of a time dismantling that sucker. The power button on that thing is actually behind a thick metal layer. The dremel and I had a hell of a time getting it out. And now, well, that case is no more. lol

I have like 7 fans in my case (diff case). Just a quick tip, get a fan that has a slower rpm speed so it doesn't make a ton of noise. Some say that the bigger fans have the slowest rpm's but that's not always the case. Those 80mm ones from CompUSA are way too loud if you ask me. I'd definitely choose a different vendor (personal experience). lol

There may be enough room for you to put a 60mm fan at the very top of that sucker. Just take the dremel and cut out a space. Of course there's plenty of room to make as many cutouts as you want from the side panel. That's always fun, pending you have a dremel or some variant of course.

Just make sure your power supply is equipped to handle all of the additional peripherals.

I would definitely go with a larger case with a larger PSU. A friend of mine was having trouble with his system shutting itself off due to an insufficient power supply. Just a thought.

You must get a new case, with a 350w power supply (or better). The PIII/733 is still a good machine and not to be disregarded! They go quite well with 512Mb of RAM!

What you might like to look for is an "exhaust fan" it takes up a PCI space at the back and will shift 40-50cfm of air. You can get them for around $6 I would have thought? I do not like front fans other than to cool the HDD(s).

    Cheers

On most systems that I build, I run athlons 2500+ with a 300watt power supply, which does quite well.

Just to add a bit onto what Nihil already stated, try this link to see what some of those fans look like. Rather neat if you ask me. I'm gonna get one soon, maybe a bay fan too, those are really odd looking. Also, I agree, a new case is needed. They are quite cheap too.
