Locked out of control panel
A friend of mine just called with a problem that I hadn't heard of before. He can get into Control Panel in Win98SE, but when he clicks on an icon, it tells him the specified path or device is not available. Has anyone heard of this before, or can someone suggest a fix? Thanx.

and have you looked with google....?
this thread at annoyances.org was the first hit, there are many suggestions there - similar to what most people here will say I suspect. Seems like a good place to start and saves most people here from reiterating the same.

If you do get stuck with any of these though post back as several peeps round here can advise further

Zonewalker,
Thanx for the link. I forwarded it to my friend. I didn't Google for an answer to the problem because I was on my way out when he called with the problem. I figured I'd drop a line on the forum and see if I could find someone with an answer real quick. Thanks for your help.

If you change the location of the *.cpl file in Windows 98, you cannot access the control panel icon from there. *.cpl are control panel file run when you click on a icon in the control panel windows.
