new movie
There is a new movie coming out (from disney i think) where a group of kids try to rescue their parents. I forgot what it was called, catch something... Anyway, in the movie, there is one kid who is skilled at computers.
The commercials (at least the old ones) referred to him as a "hacker."
Will be the media finally change their minds about what a hacker is???
heh. Probably not. But it a change from the "hackers" of Swordfish, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Italian Job, and, of course my least favorite mover of all, Hackers.
I just thought it was pretty interesting.

I would like to say that while the movie Hackers may not of been a very good movieto some. It just kicked ass for me. While it didn't accuratley display the world of computers . It did make alot of stuff sexier than it really is. I mean a command line is actually kinda dull.
However it reminded me of how cool computers were to me as a kid. I was fascinated by computers before I ever saw the movie. But there is a part in the movie where everybody is looking at Burns new laptop. They are all drooling over it. Or when they went dumpster diving, or when they score some points getting even for Joey.
I'll be the first to admit I screwed with some stuff I shouldn't of when I was younger. But if I hand't I'd be an "any key" computer owner.

To answer your question. The closest I've seen to a real command line hack was when trinity used nmap I believe in reloaded. Other than that hollywood sexied everything up to make it cool for the norm. I think some of the stuff I can do with this box is pretty damn cool, blinking cursor and all.

I must say I kind of agree with Dopey Hackers made me realize what I love once again. At one time I had forgot that, and lucky for me around that time I saw the movie. It wasn't the glamour or the showing off. It was the sher love of the Computer it was the love of being there doing your stuff.
The Computer is at times the Mosiah of my world. (I know it's sad.)
Now as far as the Media goes, they will never learn. To the Media the idiot that downloads an exploit and uses it is a Hacker and a Computer Specialist.

Well yeah, I have to admit that War Games did get me into the "scene". But it was just so kick ass. I mean dialing into NORAD and nearly starting world war III. And that scene where he phreaked a pay phone was pretty cool. And breaking out of the cell with a tape recorder was awesome. I do remember watching movies like that when I about 10 and thinking "sweet. thats what i wanna do some day." Looking back, it was just a bunch of bs. But it was still fun watching.
Anyway, I thought some people were making a spook of that movie.

The movie is called Catch That Kid
What the movie is about:
12-year-old Maddy (Stewart) and her father (Robards) have always shared a love for mountain climbing. Their hobby, however, has a disastrous effect when an accident on Mount Everest injures his spine, paralyzing him forever unless he gets a very expensive operation. Determined to raise the money to pay for it, Maddy decides to recruit two of her friends to help her break into the super-high-tech bank (which includes a vault suspended 30 feet off the floor) that her mother (Beals) works at as the security chief, in an attempt to rob the funds her father needs using the amazing climbing abilities he taught her.
