Having trouble downloading a linux distro
I want to say right now I am using a sony desktop which currently has Windows XP on it (its not mine, but a friends I use) and I am getting ready to put Linux on my next computer, which I will order in three months when I will finally have the money to buy it (I say "it" because I dont know what it will be, but probably a dell latitude d600). So right now I am trying to burn myself a copy of knoppix, which i am having some trouble doing. Every time I click download, I get a site that looks like this http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html , which than has many other sites to click on, in which i get a idrectory. I dont know what to do. I thought all you had to do is click "donwload", which it than does, and than you burn, and thats it. But these web site interfaces I am finding very confusing and I am hoping that somebody can tell em what to do, even though it will probably be relaly simple or something.

Most distros are ISO's. Choose a release and download the ISO and burn it to a CD. Then boot up with the cd.

you can get any distro you want from http://www.linuxiso.org/
then if you have nero:
1) go to create new cd
2) then go to other and burn cd form image
for knoppix just reboot computer and it should run
if you dont have nero you can get a demo here http://www.ahead.de/us/nero6-ultraedition.php

An ISO image is a single file that when burned to a CD creates a full working cd...for example...the ISO of any *nix disto you are trying to get, when burned to a Cd will create a complete CD for what you are looking for ... if you are using KNOPPIX for example, it will load the Operating System from the Cd and all is well, if it is a *nix distro that needs to be installed on the harddrive in order to run, the ISO will create an entire installation CD that will be bootable.
Hope this helped you out.

Well, that is a list of ftp, http, and rysync servers you can connect to to download the iso of knoppix. try going here and downloading KNOPPIX_V3.3-2004-02-09-EN.iso . You say you know how to burn it so just burn it and restart your computer with the cd in it. good luck with that,

\"Look, Doc, I spent last Tuesday watching fibers on my carpet. And the whole time I was watching my carpet, I was worrying that I, I might vomit. And the whole time, I was thinking, \"I\'m a grown man. I should know what goes on my head.\" And the more I thought about it... the more I realized that I should just blow my brains out and end it all. But then I thought, well, if I thought more about blowing my brains out... I start worrying about what that was going to do to my goddamn carpet. Okay, so, ah-he, that was a GOOD day, Doc. And, and I just want you to give me some pills and let me get on with my life. \" -Roy Waller

Just go to http://linuxiso.com and download it. It tends to have a direct link rather than the hoops that the official sites make you jump through.
