Thanks for replying back, lessthanzero. I have to complete this exercise for a info. security course I'm taking and need help. The exercise is suppose familiarize me with weak/strong passwords and different password cracking software. After I create the password file using all of that content, LC4 version 4.0 (password cracking software) is suppose to be run to crack the hidden results within the given content.

The pasword file in Windows NT/2000/XP is in the directoty C:\WINDOWS\system32\config and it call SAM. Play with your own risk with this file.

re: how to do it
Took my LC4 <5ms to crack every password.
Copy the contents into a new .txt file. Make sure you arrange each user/passwd on its own separate line like this:
Alice:WANG1:2CEBBEC04BDFCF8E7BEC24A6D1A324C9:16B9C155CEB253CBFA6209D589014960:::
Then invoke LC4. Start a new session and import from a pwdump file (targeting the new text file).
Shouldn't take long...

[edit: the line begining 'Alice' should be one contigious line in the text file. AO forces a word wrap.]

lessthanzero:
Does the .txt file have to be in any specific location for this to work? After starting a new session, I click to import from a "PWDUMP file....." I double-click my .txt file and nothing happens, except for "Imported 0 accounts" appearing in the extreme bottom left of the screen.
