tracking down cybersquatter
Hi....don't know if this is the right forum or not, but i need help tracking down & shutting down a pron site infringing upon a legit website.
i run waynecountybaberuth.com (baseball and softball site in N.C.) and some scum has set up waynecountybaberuth.org which is gang-rape, date-rape, etc
all i know so far is his name is supposedly "Alit Turok of Stambul, Turkey", domain registered with 1dni.com
what resources do i have besides contacting the registrar? i'm not sure which host he's using....i thought at first it was hqhost.net, but i don't know defintively.

Go speak with ICANN, which is the DNS regulatory body for Domain Names. At the least, the .org shouldn't be used for a commercial website. File a complaint with 1dni.com. Given that they are in the US I don't know if they'd be thrilled to be associated with this especially with their claim:

hqhost.net is located in the Ukraine so they will probably not care too much other than getting paid but contact them as well. Overall, unfortunately, cybersquatting is hard for small organizations/companies to deal with because of a lack of $$$$ so good luck in persuing the "good samaritan" route.

Thanks Ms. Mittens,
I have contacted 1dnc.com and hqhost.net by email and left a phone message for 1dni.com, but no respornses yet. But i'm not sure that hqhost.net is the host. When i run tracert, it actually looks like a californian company called choopa.net and i can't remember how i came up with hqhost.net. I just want to make sure who to go after. I assume it's going to take a long time to get any results.

Last time I checked, this kind of stuff was kinda illegal in most parts of the US. Perhaps a visit to the local FBI office?

Odd how my "whois" came out a wee bit different, but all the same now you have 2 potential contact points.
I can't help but wonder if ICANN should give priority to whomever first registers a .com, .org etc, as in myname.com would be notified if someone tried to register myname.org and have the option of releasing the domain or registering it to protect its unique internet identity.

allen, etepalusip referenced that one in his first post. I somehow don't think that the Muslim state of Turkey would be too impressed with this being hosted there. Stambul is a reference to Istambul. But try tracing the IP rather than just the Whois.

when i go to that site all i get is "You don't have permission to access / on this server."
just wanted to make sure you weren't trying to take down a rival. if i get the urge later meybe ill try changing the referer tag and see
MsMittens islam is against porn so it sure wouldn't hurt to let'em know. heck you never know they might even execute this guy for you.

=o... it was just up a second ago. I had checked it and it was pretty ugly. Google still has a cache if you plop it in there. I'm not going to link to the cache as it's pretty ugly and disgusting in my opinion (a way bit over the top). Perhaps those phone calls/emails paid off?
