Yes it is sad and they did it with happiness and excitement, they were happy to do it with smiles on their faces as the hung them off a bridge. They were civilians working there to rebuild and help. This is the face of people that cannot be reasoned with.

Note the US "civilians" where wareing flak jackes, where heavely armed, had defense department ID's and dog tages...at best they where mercs at worst special ops on loan to state or cia...wither way not civilians.
Was this disturbing...yes on par with what happened to delta force guys in somila, but lets not make it seem worse by calling them civilians.

They were security personal working for a company in the Carolina's. Reporters on the ground also wear dog tags and flack vests, I wouldn't call them mercs. Anyone even a janitor would be issued those items in a combat zone. CIA? I'll reserve that judgement until more info is released. Either way, to the crowd they were civilian Americans. These are a people with little clue outside the 12th century. They are being guided by negative effects on their people by those we seek control and the return of Sadam. The violence is bad enough, what gets me is the joy on their faces.
More info: the company is Blackwater USA - Moyock, N.C. Thery could just have been some stupid security guards in the wrong place. They often provide escorts for food delivies, and body gurads to Iraqi officials. Who knows.

In Iran, they show the senseless beating, raping, torturing of captured U.S army people all the time on broadcast television. That's just how it is over there (as well as maybe Pakistan, or any other muslim television network such as Al-Jazeera). When they killed the reporter from some newspaper in the U.S (forgot which one) they taped the killing and aired it. That's nothing new, but I'm surprised they're showing this in denmark. Dunno what they got to do with anything on the "war on terror" or anything related..

From what I understand most of the "security contractors" in iraq now are exspecial forces. the pay is so good that they are leaveing the military in numbers, and there are enough of these guys that nonex military can't get the jobs.
More over they where armed in a combat zone that makes them combatants, they knew full well what they where getting in to...was this attack disgusting, yes, but lets not rachet up the retoric by claiming that these guys where just civilian contractors.
EDIT: Looked into Blackwater USA, they are a full private military organization, most of there recrutes come form SEALS or SAS with some other special ops and SWAT type police thrown in. Mostly thye do training of national special forces in small countries over the world...these guys where not a group of unlucky security gaurds. Hell these guys are known as mercs 'r us, a lot of the troops they have in iraq are ex chilaen commandos

I agree with you bballad. It doesn't really lesson my sentimant toward the smiles but they were armed security personal not just some IT guys, but still they weren't soldiers in full battle dress, they were civilians in an SUV probably out sight seeing or something stupid.

ex special ops...sight seeing? The word form the iraq blogs is that this wasn't a random attack, these four where targeted because of some of their "interigation" methods. Seems one of the biggist reasons for mercanry use is that they don't have to fallow the rules...this company has been used as a pentagon contractor for years t odo US dirty work....they useualy don't work side to side with the military though, mostly training of dictators forces in some third world, or fighting a littel war in some third world

This sort of thing is nothing new and not reserved to the middle east either. A few years back in the mid eighties 2 off duty Brit soldiers came across an PIRA funeral and were rather silly enough to sit in their car and watch. When the crowd of mourners sussed they were Brits they were both dragged from there car and beated and then executed with a bullet in the head. This was all filmed by reporters and shown on the news here. At least the actual shootings were not shown. But the beating which was savage and sever and the corpses after the shootings was at anycase. All this in Northern Ireland.
The point is this is always bloody horrible to see what ever the reason or location.
