    EttercapNG 0.7.0_pre1 Released

Fairly recently updated, EttercapNG is out. You will need an updated libpcap (version 0.8.3 should be fine -- has to be greater than 0.8.1) and libnet greater than 1.1.2. Don't forget OpenSSL if you want HTTPS and SSH1 support.

Just as a side FYI, when installing libpcap, I had to copy a version from /usr/local/lib to /usr/lib so if it is having errors trying to find libpcap do a whereis libpcap and then do a strings on each libpcap.a file location.

    Addendum

Ettercap ended up in /usr/local/bin/ rather than /usr/local/sbin. Either copying it over of creating a link should do the trick. The Interface has changed. You now can choose between ettercap -T for a text/CLI interface, ettercap -C for a nCurses interface or (NEW) ettercap -G for a GTK interface. Definately need a read of the man pages for the vast changes they've done with this tool.

    Happy Sniffing!

    Edited to fix the -T

I was gonna play with this thing last night, when I was trying to reverse engineer the protocol of my house mates network game, without them realising. Would have been pretty funny to craft some packets and change who was winning the FA (football association) cup to some rubbish team...

Ettercap ended up in /usr/local/bin/ rather than /usr/local/sbin.
Knowing this ahead of time, you can run configure with the --prefix=PATH switch and pop it in sbin.

The distro used was Slack 9.1, with the standard kernel.

Hmmm, did you run into any issues installing libnet using the standard ./configure && make && make install? I have heard a folks doing this and libpcap still reports an old 0.7.X release.

    Hey Hey,

I had no problems compiling any of the required libraries... however I ran into problems with openssl. It installed fine and then during compile ettercap was crashing out. The problem was due to the linking of the libraries... I've posted a fix on the forums... if anyone else has the same problem, I'd be curious to here about it... You can find information about the fix @ http://ettercap.sourceforge.net/foru...pic.php?t=1964

So far so good.... it seems to be working quite nicely.

    Peace,
    HT

    UPDATE:

Thanx for the DCC. After a few extra minutes on the phone with my jr. security engineer, I quickly realized that the issue was between the keyboard and the seat. He was doing a few things incorrectly. I spent about 10 minutes fixing the problems he created and soon after, I had ettercap purring along.

Also, a quick little edit to your post, text mode is envoked with a "-T" not a "-t".

Again, thanks for entertaining my requests.
