    Jean-Marie Le Pen?

Ok! I saw the headlines of the violence in the UK because of this guy. Started doing a little research and read of his political career and some of his outrageous comments. I guess I still don’t get it.

Why the protests in the UK because of his visit?

WE don't like his politics. Whilst i do exept that, the UK has, in it's passed made a lot of mistakes concerning how we treat foriegn policy. The type of far right politics he preaches is anathma to us (i think).

To be a bit patriotic the uk did outlaw slavery (then inforce that with the use of the Royal Navy).

We remember the black shirts and the consequences.

    Edit:

This is the F(*%$£")er that said:
In 1987 he described the holocaust as a "detail of history", and five years ago he fell foul of the law for an election punch-up with a Socialist rival.

    detail of history
Watch the world at war series. The Britsh came across Belson and had to bury the dead. I was young when i saw it but it had a lasting impresion. Heaps of bodies being buldozed into a trench.

Don't have much time now, but here's the clue:

Le Pen is right-wing, is totally racist, doesn't know **** about anything, is 189 years old, nobody even takes him seriously in Europe (not even the Eastern-Europeans.. and that means a lot.. to them).
99% of Europe doesn't want to be associated with Le Pen. More on Le Pen to come tomorrow

i thought his exact words were a "detail of WWII".

"If you take a book of a thousand pages on the Second World War, in which 50 million people died, the concentration camps occupy two pages and the gas chambers ten or 15 lines, and that's what's called a detail.

    -- Jean-Marie Le Pen, December 5, 1997 Munich."

well correct me if im wrong jinxy their are allot of details to the war. like the blitz, like the bombing of perl harbor, the nuking of nagasaki. the war wasn't fought because of the consentration camps. the full tragedy of it wasn't discovered until the allied troops marched in. the "final solution" wasn't uncovered until after the war. hhum! guess your right. if it had nothing to do with the war then i guess it couldn't have been a detail. but this seems like more than a disagreement over symantics.

    of couse there's always:

The 'sidaïques1', by breathing the virus through all pores, put into question the equilibrium of the nation. (...) The 'sidaïque' is contagious by his sweat, salive, contact. It's a kind of leper.

-- Jean-Marie Le Pen, May 6, 1987 on the TV station Antenne 2

Yes, I do believe in the inequality of races !

    -- Jean-Marie Le Pen, August 31, 1996.

Olympic games show clearly inequalities between the black and white races concerning, for example, athletes, and runners in particular. It's a fact. [...] I'm stating what I see. [...] Egalitarianism is simply absurd.

    -- Jean-Marie Le Pen, September 9, 1996.

he seems like quit a dispicable charecter but "throwing garbage". you guys are acting like a bunch of americans j/k so i assume there's more to it than this.

look foward to your info neg. your always enlighting

The problems with Le Pen....... . He is totally racist, xenophobe and isolationists. Unfortunately he is also extremely smart.
It is impossible to totally unbiased when talking about Le Pen. He is the political equivalent of the sensationalist tabloids. He was in England to support the candidature of the head of the extreme right for the next elections. His main aim is to keep people talking about his political party Le Front National (The National Front) and he does that really well. England is the perfect example. If he wasn’t there would have been almost no media interest in the announcement of the candidature of the English extreme right. The fact that he was there and got trash thrown at him made it an international news story. As they say there is no such thing as bad publicity for a politician.

My guess is that most British people hadn't even heard of him and care even less. Pretty much as Negative said about the rest of Europe.

The "trouble" was caused by his coming to support the British far right, who are not liked in many quarters because of their stirring up racial tension and so on. When they have rallies there are frequently demonstrations against them, so I would say that Le Pen, himself was pretty coincidental to what happened, he just gave it a bit more publicity?

    Cheers

Never heard much of the guy until today. I read all the links for and against his viewpoint. But I wonder how, in any case and in any country, everytime someone points out the difference between black and white atheletes they are racist?

In se, there's nothing wrong with that, RoadClosed. It's obvious that there are differences between the races, it's obvious that there are differences between men and women.
It gets "dangerous" though when you base your politics on those distinctions. Le Pen is a "France for the French" kinda guy, but his definition of "French" is kinda narrow.
No more immigration, sending everybody back to where they came from, no more freedom of religion,... it's a long list. Why? Because "they" (the non-French living in France) are worth less.

Hmm, actually I think a lot of British people who follow the news have already heard of him.

There was extensive press coverage here, due to the success of his party in local elections a couple(?) of years ago in France.

I suspect that both his party and the BNP are in serious decline, but that is mainly down to the fact that both the French and UK governments have completely changed their policies on illegal immigration & asylum seekers, and are now taking what in my view is a far more sensible approach.

Personally, I thought it was ridiculous that the French, supported by the Red Cross had a refugee centre next to the channel tunnel, which meant that the UK was getting about 100 illegal immigrants arriving every day. And when they were returned to France, they just tried again a week later !!

Don't agree at all with most of his views, but he did have a valid point there, and if you had mentioned the point about illegal immigration even 5 years ago in the UK, you would have been branded a racist ............
