    Mentor needed -RH9

Seems you don't learn when everything works first go and the configs for services or progs are done for you.. and all the normal hardware is in and running or is recognised without a hitch..

    Here is my challenge:
I want to setup a box as a Internet gateway and firewall, With the prospect of getting a Mail server, spam filter and anti virus running on the baby..
System a pII-400, 128mb sd ram, 2 hdds (both 4.3gb), redhat 9 is installed, and being a lazy win type i also installed gnome, two NIC's 10/100's

    First Step:

1/ eth0 is to the broadband router.. DHCP assigned
2/ eth1 is connected to the network hub, is supposed to be the DHCP server for the network. assigned 192.168.0.1 as the IP

Now I needed to get the DHCPD server running..

Seems whatever I do here I get error is from the dhcpd.conf file on attempting to start the server, now I have tried several sample conf's to no avail, this is where I have become bogged down..

thoughts? well I will be wanting a bit of help here.. but I don't expect ppl to do the config for me.. and as you can see I don't know the difference between chmod and assign

    Cheers

If you can post what you have here tonight I'd be happy to have a look at it and see if we can get you a working dhpcd.conf.

Thank you spurious_inode for your offer for help.. After a posting this request I found that the problem was in the syntax of the config script.. I found a sample script that i made my mods to.

I now have a working eth0 with a dhcp server - and eth1 getting it's ip via dhcp..
nxt step is to get the -gateway running and perhaps a fiddle with the iptables.. but I read and work from here..

    Thankyou again..

    cheers
