    nintendo ds

    <facts>
Nintendos new hand held to be released this November will have wireless acces built in. The Nintendo DS (working title) will have ad-hock networking and router access allowing players to meet localy and acrost the world. The specs say that it will work with IE 802.11 wireless and Nintendo's proprietary communication protocol. The range of the device will be about 30 feet.

So we now have a handheld thats is like a PDA as an XBOX is to a pc. IMHO this is going to have some problems with hacking, look at cell phones they all ready have viruses out for them and any thing labled "proprietary" will be cracked ASAP. the ad hock conections are safe unless they are taped by another wireless network they shouldent be able to attack each other ( unless nintendo makes "31773 |>|_||>35 script kiddie wargame" ). The real problem is when playing over a wireless network, as mentioned before nintendo's protocol WILL be cracked and then any one can write up a computer interface (C library?) and start the havoc of Dos attacks, buffer overflows, and worms. Some will say "but what about the XBOX they arent being attacked?" the reason is simple: the servers are pre-programed into the games them selves and each game has it's own protocol for online play (corect me if I'm wrong, this is just what I have gathered). First thing I do when I get one is to put ontop of my wireless router and get out good old Nmap and start scaning it. Could this be the new tool of war drivers? just walk by your local mall with an online enabled game and try to connect every 10 feet and see where you can conect. Right after I finish probing it's ip stack till I can practacaly speek it, antenna mod. Only kid in town that can beat you at mario kart from one mile away .

There is no right or wrong, just fun and boring. For example reloading an mainframes OS after an attack sounds boring. Thats where antionline comes in. - no clue who said it but is sums up my personal philosophy in a nut shell.

I think Cell phones have done pretty well really, they been out in some shape or form since the mid 80's and the Cebir (incorrect spelling i think) is the first worm to be realesed and that uses bluetooth meanings of transmission instead of the cell network.

Xbox has been attacked, buffer overflows were found in code make it possible to run linux without any hardware modifications.

Nintendo are historically excellent at producing anti-piracy solutions, look at the gamecube? still the games havent been pirated, they use an excellent method to prevent copying.

Game console hacking is quite a fun and intellectually challenging hobby that is undertaken by few dedicated hackers

ive just looked at the specs, and i see its an ARM9 processor, these are quite interesting devices to hack...Ive been created some exploit code for a router I bought that was very cheap so that I can put uC Linux on it, as of yet I havent progressed very far but ive found an exploitable program running in the arm, now its a matter of figuring out a way to load that I want on without knakering anything,

as long as this Ninendo thing has a JTAG port on it or a means of putting one on it, it wont be long before it runs linux or other things are done with it.

yea i know what you mean i2c.....look at satalite...dishnetwork mostly
they made teh choice of putting JTAG ports on all their boxes....now my friend gets free porno....i dont support nor putdown this action but anyway.........i wonder how long untill someone tried to get linux on the ps2....being it now has a hdd ........i think companies are still alittle niave *spelling* still....some people think that their product wont be hacked....when in fact...as long as something requires power and has any type of logic.....it is going to be hacked.....wether or not the DS is going to be used to hack is still unclear but it is very appearent that it has the ability

o i heard a rumor that somone was trying to put linux on the nguage...anyone here have any light to shed?

thanks for the corection i2c about the Xbox, I wonder if that hold true for a moded Xbox? most load linux but I would like to see BSD on an Xbox just for laughfs. Blue tooth enabled cell phones have had a demonstration worm writen and tested. The worm just searches for others to infect untill the battery wears out from all the scaning. heres the thread on it . When I noticed the ether net port on my friends xbox the first thing out I said was not " want to play halo on my net?" it was: "hey can I hook it up to the lan and run some tests? just to see what os it's running?" after that came numerous death threats involving a 20 gauge shotgun and my skull. not having my counsloe hacking need fully satiated i'm going to fiddle with this thing till my fingers fall off moding it. Maby you could provide some links to counsole hacking web pages? always eager to learn

Their choice of media was def. a good idea. It'd cost too much to pirate their games...

    But there are other ways...

There are ppl even porting linux to the gamecube... though I'm not quite sure why... it'll NEVER be as good as the xbox linux...

Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.

ive seen GC-linux, i was going to getting a GC just so that i could get involved in this project.

The method you have give in the link there is how GC linux is being run on the GC, it cant be run without a getting it from a network, as they cant burn to dvd as its barcoded, so basically the GC is just run as a thin client.
