maybe its just me, but despite the subject matter of the problem, i was under the impression that the question was about what legal steps he could do to get it removed? does that not belong here?

That is exactly what my question was about, and that is exactly why I was inquiring why that would not belong here.

I have often wondered, but have been too afraid to ask, it is kosher or non-kosher to say "hey. check this site out..... It's like swiss cheese"....
Unless someone has written permission, I would imagine that the more ethical types don't do this.

No it didn't belong here. The question asked was for help, not a theoretical discussion on the morals of something. Cosmos was meant to be a place to get into heated political debates (laws), philosphical or moral debates. The key here is DEBATE. Many members come here to "hide", if you will, from the "help me" of the rest of the forum. I suspect that many members weren't pleased to see the post there. Neg did you a favour to a degree by closing that thread before it got out of hand.

Seriously, in the future, if a thread is closed and you're not sure why, send a note to a mod (Negative or myself are the board-wide mods). We can explain why or re-open it with whatever fixes are needed (in your case, moving the thread to GCC would have been beneficial and/or starting a new thread, with a link identifying the old one, and re-presenting the info so that people can respond better).

Lastly, in regards to this kind of question: AO get's scammed more times than I can count by social engineers. It's made a few members cynical in their response and, honestly, I don't blame them. It's hard to know if you really are helping someone legit or whether someone is just yanking your chain for jollies.

Additionally, the way it was presented doesn't lend itself easily to helping (I've had to read it 4 times to figure out what it is you really want!). Breaking it into sentence chunks and, I know it's hard, removing your emotion from it would be helpful. That said...

In regards to your original post:

    1. They should have offered to re-imburse him for his tickets (this would have avoided the pissed off-ness from him and might have avoided this whole problem)

    2. They should check local laws on harassment. This might (and would certainly be interesting) "prove-able" if forum admins are willing to present evidence (that is, the IDs of those "harassing" her

    3. They should get a cyber lawyer (someone who specialises in internet related activities) to do a "Cease and desist" order. If there was never intentions to have pictures published and no contract that said that he could, it'll be hard to prove verbal when it's 2 against 1.

    4. They need to learn restraint on what they send out to someone they don't know. I'm not surprised he reacted the way he did and that's why they are responsible for point 1.

    5. His comments, Oh and posting my personal information is a violation of the rules here. And that's nothing a reverse DNS couldn't reveal. are contradictory to each other. His information is public knowledge thanks to WHOIS standards. If however you were to publish the private information of one of the schmucks that harassed the girl, then that would be different.

The only way you're going to force him, IMO, to remove the pictures is through contract law. If he didn't have a contract to upload the pictures, even if they did send them to him but never gave permission (did they say in an email he could do whatever he wants with them?) they have a chance.

You also might want to remind these people the importance of being careful online. This guy is annoying. He could have been worse (serial killer). They should publish on their own what they want out and don't forward it to someone else.
