Looks like you did a pretty good job on getting rid of whatever malware you had. But just so that it doesn't happen again to you. Whenever you got some time you could read this :
    Spyware

    Out Of Topic :
On the other hand I see that you have a lot of Instant Messaging programs installed ... Not that there is really anything wrong with it ... But maybe you should give this program a try for a while and see what you think .... If you do like it well you can uninstall AIM,MSN,Yahoo Messenger and just stick with Gaim .... It'll save you some space ....

    What is Gaim

It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, and Zephyr networks.
P.S. I highly doubt that you'll need to reformat your hard drive ............

I am not sure about this one.. Do you have Kaspersky AntiVirus or have had it installed?

I would recommend running "The Cleaner" http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1666.html
    or "Ewido Suite" http://www.ewido.net/en/

Both are trial versions.. Install in turn .. update then restart in safe mode.. run the scan..
when the scan is clear.. restart in normal mode.. re run the scans.. allclear..?

As per previous advice: I am repeating earlier advice..

1/ Install a Firewall.. even just turning the Windows firewall will do as a start..
2/ return the file view settings for:
....... re-enable Hide protected operating system files and folders
....... be sure "Hide extensions for known file types
....... IF you please on this.. enable "Do not show hidden files and Folders"
3/ Re-enable system restore (it was disabled earlier?)
4/ do a Windows update manually
    5/ restart
6/ rescan with the cleaner and ewido
7/ if all clear.. uninstall ewido and The Cleaner (you only need one Antivirus - I do recommend Trend Micro PC-Cillin you get the AV and Firewall)
8/ Install the Ad blocking Hosts file .. d/l from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm yes it is a repost..
9/ if your not useing Firefox.. consider useing it as primary browser
10/ consider extra protection like Spyware Blaster, the Tea timer function in SpyBot Search and Destroy.

11/ enjoy the internet.. but be sure the AV is updateing, AND YOU DO NEED TO REGURLY UPDATE AND SCANN with the Adaware and Spybot SnD..

That's the newest incarnation of the Narrator/Qoologic trojan. Not a big deal but a PITA.

.... if you're still out there would you post a fresh HJT log & I'll be happy to give it a once-over for you. There really is no need to format at this point. Everything I've seen (so far) in your log is annoying but not dire.

    Dare I say fixed??

It has now been 10 hours without a popup. I had been getting several each hour.

What seems to have worked was downloading "CleanUp312" and running it in Safe Mode several times with 2 scans each of AdAware SE and SpyBot S&D in between "CleanUp" scans. This being done after deleting all temp files, cookies and history; in other words, what Und3er suggested in his second to last post. I had also checked and fixed the HJT items he originally found suspicious about a day ago.

I had tried all these things (and many others) before with the exception of the CleanUp312; this seems to have been the key.

I checked and fixed the item in my HJT scan that seemed suspicious but I see that upon restart it comes back. I did download "The Cleaner" as suggested by Und3er in his last post and ran it as prescribed and it gives me a clean bill of health. In fact I did all that he suggested in his last post, including downloading that host file, with the exception of switching to FoxFire, which I may still do.

Rather than try and get the windows firewall to work again I had installed ZoneAlarm as suggested by Aspman . I keep getting an alert saying "Run a DLL as an App is trying to access the internet" each time I start up. I don't know why I am suspicious of it (maybe because I don't know exactly what a DLL is) but I have been denying it and my computer seems to work fine.

Here is the HJT scan done on my last start up. I appreciate everyone's interest and advice, thank you all, and a special thanks to Und3er.

Well it certainly looks better! Good job!

It looks like you still have the Narrator trojan, however.

    Please download FindQoologic from here:
    http://forums.net-integration.net/in...post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.

And you may have a L2M infection as well. They seem to go together!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
Let's clean out some of the general ick too.

Please select the following with HijackThis. With all windows (including this one!) closed, please select "fix.”

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

Then reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log along with the other 2 logs.

Well, I am still getting some popups :-( not as bad as before but still a major bummer.

I fixed the two items in HJT that you mentioned and would appreciate it if you'd look at my latest log.

"I keep getting an alert saying "Run a DLL as an App is trying to access the internet" each time I start up."

See what program you ran just before you receive this message. It should be a program trying to get access to the Net.

Also take a look at the ZoneAlarm box and it should tell you the name of the app that is trying to connect.

If this info is wrong please feel free to correct me guys....

    Curios ...
Do the popup[s] only occur when the web browser is open on a specific website ??

It looks like you ran the wrong batch file. You need to run Find-Qoologic2.bat, which should be the first one in the folder. You need to unzip it to your desktop before you run it. The output will pop up in a notepad file when the scan is finished running - that's what I need. Otherwise I'm trying to fix with only a small portion of the info I need!

What problems are you having with the L2M fix?

as far as L2M Fix, I get the log in a box that I can't cut and paste from, it looks like the window you gwt when you go through "run" off the "start" menu ... sorry, I really am a novice

here is my latest HJT scan too, Thank You

Agent, no, I get popups anytime I am logged on to the internet despite what program I am using. As I said before it is MUCH better after doing what Und3er said in his next to last post, the "Cleanup312" It is about 90% better.
