    www.betterservice.info pop-up

    Hey all,

Getting a pop-up telling me to go to www.betterservice.info. Already tried HijackThis, CWShredder, manually scanning the registry, and Norton. Any suggestions? It's on an XP and I'm not too familiar with them so I don't wanna break it :0P Thanks.

It's there in the HiJack this..... post the scan as a text file with any identifying information obfuscated and let's see if we can't weed the little bugger out of there....

Try to use Firefox explorer, It's great and it blocks popups, its very fast browsing, in my opinion much better than internet explorer.
    Give it a try

or you could just use spybot s&d or some other spyware scanner and scan for spyware. CWS doesn't scan for all spywares you know. And sadly Norton doesn't find every single spyware. Then, go to http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/ and get Spyware Blaster to prevent future infections.

i would give 'ad aware' a chance. the program is free and available at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

once installed, update your definition files.

reboot into safe mode (hold in f8 key after post completes on reboot).

run a full system scan and see what you come up with.

    Boring, but here goes:

    Spybot Search & Destroy

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

    AdAware SE Personal Edition

    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download

    Ewido

    http://www.ewido.net/en/

    A-Squared

    http://www.emisoft.com/en/software/free/

Get them all, update them then boot into SAFE MODE (F8) and run them. Do the same with CWS Shredder and your AV.

Then run the Hijack This scan that Tiger~ suggests.

When you have it all cleaned out, as already suggested:

    Spyware Blaster

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

    Win Patrol

    http://www.winpatrol.com

    RegistryProt

    http://www.diamondcs.au.com

And run the "immunization" option in Spybot S & D

I would be inclined to turn java cacheing off and clear out your browser cache, history (and java cache if you are using it) after every online session and BEFORE re-booting.

    EDIT: I see

VanEck beat me to part of it
