How big is yours?.... Your mailbox that is.

    Hey Hey,

So I went to look for a past email and when I clicked on the folder Outlook hung for a couple of minutes... I decided it was time to see how much space my email was talking up..

    The result.... too much.

    Outlook - Archive Folder - 774MB
    Outlook - Personal Folder - 137MB
    Rogers Yahoo Mail - 200MB
    Hotmail - 20MB
    Gmail - 932MB

This doesn't account for my work email... Which I know is sitting at around 300MB... This is just my home accounts... Now there are 9 accounts associated with outlook...

I subscribe to quite a few mailing lists... I'd say they account for about 50-60% of the email I receive, however I still average 1000+ emails each week. Then again on high traffic days (or while WMF was big news... I was averaging more than that daily with some of my mailing lists)... The sad part is that I read about 95% of the emails I receive... Some days I may not because I'm not in the mood... and ones that are announcing vulns in various operating systems I may just read the synopsys.... even still.. I think I'm consuming a good deal of space for email... I have 2 or 3 other gmail accounts that I use on occasion but given the size of those ones.. I decided I'd best leave them out before I look like too much of a geek..

I also have a 700MB Outlook PST burned to disk from a couple installs ago.. it has really old email that i'm just hanging on to for the sake of hanging on to it.

So spill it..... How big is yours?

    Peace,
    HT

I think a lot depends on how old you are. I was brought up in the era when you were probably allocated 20Mb on the server, and your local HDD wasn't very big either (1.1, 1.7, 2.1Gb).

This meant that you learned to be ruthless with stuff you didn't absolutely need. After all, is a six month old virus alert that important? Do I really need my own copy of meeting minutes when they are on the Project File?

I would guess I have no more than 20Mb in e-mail accounts. However I do have saved attachments in other folders, which lets me dump the covering e-mail. Particularly useful if the sender does not know how to use "blind copy" and the whole thing is bloated by the distribution list

    Hey,

None of my accounts are that big at all, less than 20Mb, however the CEO of the Trust i used to work for, his account was a different story.

Basically he had been running this account for 5 years, not deleted a thing and suddenly one day he boots into outlook and it crashes. The IT support is outsourced and he didn't want to wait the couple of hours as he had to get in to it NOW (you know what they're like). So the first thing i did was check the size of the PST file and bang 2 gig! So anyway i basically got it all archived except the last 3 months, split the files into 650 ish Mb size and burnt him 3 cds with all his mail on and left him with a very small account. Was great cause as far as he was concerned i may as well of been god, shame the guy left a week later so i never had a chance to call in the favour...

how come i see my freind have like 1000 unread spam and about 1/2 is pron? he has yahoo by the way. i dont use it so i dont know if you can have it turned off like under age mail.

EDIT:also i may belive that would be his fault for giving his e-mail to those kind of sites. they all ask for it so i think your right. it would be the users fault for going there in the first place.

    Hotmail 32MB
    Yahoo 204MB
    Gmail 36 MB
Outlook 2 MB (as its a new account)

My previous company account was almost a Gb, and one thing more there are users in my company (current one) having Personal folders of size 2 GB or more.
