    It was a false alarm... Take a look at this article:

    The 3 and a half times a year, I turn my windows 98 (SE I think) computer on it shows a windows update popup. That's all I care about really as far as "support" goes and maybe some driver updates every now and then, but I'm better off getting those of the manufacturers website anyway.
