Winfixer please help
Hi guys,
I have a problem. About a month ago, I nearly lost the use of my computer (I use it for research on the internet and not much more) with a nasty thing called winfixer.
I got rid of it on my pc, and thought I had cleared it out of here with the advice I got, but no.
This is what I have done to day to clear what I can.
Windows updates
updated spyware blaster
updated and run spybot and ad aware
checked original hosts file
I just tried to download spyware guard, but can't find a reliable link.
I don't know what to do next, as I can't read a hijack this log myself, and am a bit concerned, as I went through all this last month, and haven't downloaded anything since. How can I get rid of it and make sure I don't get it again?
THanks in advance
Jonny

looks pretty clean to me.. Id take out
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
Just because there is probably no reason for any of those to be running.
Keep up the hard work!

Hi
The log looks relativley clean, however it won't reveal registry entries for Winfixer...This site has information on associated files with this spyware..eTrust
You should try running your scans again in Safe Mode
Get Ccleaner This will delete a lot of garbage as well as your temp files, also it has an Issue's function with the registry, it will find orphaned files and shortcuts, it will make a backup for you, so I would recommend you make a backup of the scanned registry entries and save it to your my documents or someplace you can retrieve them from.
This site Spywareguide has some useful info reference Winfixer as well..
If you want to manage your startups then get this Startup Control Panel it will allow you to reduce most of those startups (04's)

these lines are related to the Alexa search engine and is debatable for malware, may want to have the HJT fix it.Castlecops
I would also IMO change your account to a user account and stop using the administrator account, as once this account becomes corrupt, your looking at a re-install of the OS at the least to bring your PC back to it's original config.
Recommend you read this: Cleaning a Pest-Infested Computer
Also wouldn't hurt to get Microsoft Antispyware Beta

If you didn't, run your spyware programs in safe mode, not in normal mode. Sometimes these little critters won't get cleaned up unless you do it in safe mode.

You might like to get the trial of Prevx, it is supposed to clean Winfixer:

Thanks guys, you have given me a lot to work with, though judging by what I had to do last time, it is going to take me a day or two to actually get all this done, I will getback to you all

Here's a few more links for WinFixer:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic18610.html
http://www.free-web-browsers.com/sup...winfixer.shtml
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6122-0....sageID=1675990
And Norton's removal tool:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html
You definitely need to clean out the temp folders/files ala dalek's Ccleaner suggestion. Winfixer uses what we used to call droppers, rootkit-like programs that reinstall removed spyware infections.
