    HDD test, screenshot included

    Hi there guys

Im using HD Tune to check my HDD. In the atachment I would just like to know what the *failed* means. I checked the manual however it doesnt specify. Should I be alarmed by this?

Reallocated Sectors Count: Count of reallocated sectors. When the HDD finds a read/write error, it will mark this sector as "reallocated" and transfer data to the special reserved area. That's why on a modern HDD you can't see "BAD blocks" while testing the surface - all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. The more sectors reallocated (i.e.lower attribute value), the worse the condition of disk surface.

Thanks Jewish. Should I be alarmed by this?

    Howdy.

I'd say there's nothing like a good disk defragment that should solve the problem.
If not then pull it apart and run it through the dishwasher a few times.

other then that there's not much to be alarmed about, majority of hard drive's that i've tested over the years show some kind of errors while using those type of programs, and after a good defrag etc they come clean.

    cheers

As soon as the OS reports a bad sector, the drive has
used up all its spares. At that time it is "game over",
and you'll need a new drive. This utility is just telling
you how many sectors have failed so far. Does it say how
many spare or hidden sectors are still available?
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.
