Again, why should the P2P sites be taken down? They are providing a service, and that service is being abused by certain users - that warrants taking them down? Should the police shut down all freeways because people speed on them? Should the DEA stop boats from being made because boats are used to transport illegal drugs? Should District Attorney file murder charges on Gun Manufacturers any time someone is killed with a gun? I'm sorry, but you seem to be all over the place here. Didn't you say earlier that Napster was wrongly shut down?
Your right I did mention Napster,(and Kazaa) only in the context that I was somewhat agreeing with you, I didn't state it was wrongly shut down.(more like he went over to the "Dark Side" jk) I don't condone the downloading of copyrighted material just as much as the next guy, and maybe what I should have stated instead of the P2P sites being shut down, was they should be going after those that use these sites to download so they can sell on the black market.....

Save the Gun Manufacturer's for another thread......

Ok on the Gun Manufacturers, what about abortion? *runs*

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. I still disagree about them going after those that use the p2p sites for sale of merchandise on the blackmarket - how is that hurting the RIAA or MPAA or even the labels / studios / artists more or less than just downloading illegally for personal use?

Thanks again, some people would have gotten ugly, I'm sorry if it seemed like I was getting that way, I was really just trying to have an intelligent converstaion with you.

I think that the point that you guys are missing here; is that the illegal downloading of music results in a loss of tangible dollars at the end of the day, which obviously constitutes theft no matter how you justify the matter. It does not really matter who uploaded the songs, because the issues revolves around an individual's inability to follow the law, or a guardian's complacency in regards to understanding or enforcing their childs internet usage.

As for the P2P file sharing networks, I wonder what the statistics are when you compare the amount of music, moves, games, hacked progams, and probably porn being shared, as opposed to other files being shared that were truly created by someone wanting to share their MS Word Document or home grown code for calculating the weight of a Scandinavian lemon based upon size, richness of color, and stem base thickness. I cannot imagine that legitimate use outweighs the illegal use. The P2P industry that, in general turns a blind eye to the illegal theft occuring with their resources or software.

One of you brought up shutting down freeways...etc.. Now let's try my scenario. It has suddenly become popular for youngsters to steal personal financial information and share it over the Internet. A friend of one of your children steals a check from the back of your checkbook, or wrote down your credit card info, and has posted the information on a P2P network, allowing anyone with the inkling to purchase goods with funds in your bank account. You attempt to use your credit card at McDonald's only to find out that it has been declined. When you check your account it is overdrawn by $600 and you have $450 dollars carged against your account in overdraft fees. Now you can't make payments for your car, house, babysitter, water, gas, electricty, Internet access, online games, or buy groceries to eat, or fuel to drive to work. (Boy that sucks doesn't it?) Are you going to attempt to prosecute the the kid that stole your information, the P2P network that is actively ignoring the theft ring, or the bank for allowing you to spend your money? (BTW this scenario probably is not very far away in our future.) Illegal file sharing sounds really innocuous until it affects you personally, eh?

We cannot justify theft except in very rare and extreme circumstances, and even then the theft must be for reasonable goods to ensure survival. Food and clothing for instance. Not big screen TVs and box upon box of designer tennis shoes. To justify theft puts our society on a very slippery slope that will rapidly decline into anarchy. We have morals, principals, and a conscience for a reason. So go out there and use them instead of ipretending to ignore the basic tennants of right and wrong.

If only it could be so "Black & White".......but there are too many "Grey Areas" involved, who's to say that a person who rips, their own collection of CD's.places them in the shared folder and allows other's to upload them, is breaking a law, is this theft,??? back before they placed a tax on blank cassettes, I could do the same thing by going to a friends house and with a dual cassette recorder, copy his collection, is that theft, no that''s why they had to place a tax on the cassette to appease the recording industry, same with video tapes...I suppose they could tax the heck out of blank CD's, but it's not the same really, because of the PC's ability to rip and burn so easily, so you can make copious copies and sell the DVD's or CD's..but where does proving theft come in.....certainly on recently opened movies where the DVD/VHS hasn't hit the stores yet, but on music.....

I agree with this about the parents being responsible, but unless you have raised children in today's society, where it is instant gratification, then good luck because it will be a full time job just to keep yourself from going insane.... And this is if both parents work, who has the time anymore, you'll find more and more kids are growing up nowadays as "Latchkey Kids" all on their own, the responsibility this put's on their shoulders is enormous, why can't they be kids anymore, now they are looking after younger brothers and sisters....and if the parents are lucky the kid will hopefully learn the golden rules, the opposite is the ones who never come home, or don't take on the responsibility, and this while they have access to a PC.

Unfortunatley kids grow up emulating their peers and parents, if they hang around other kids who are into downloading, then they will download, if they have parents who cut corners or cheat, the kids will pick up on this, now I am not going to go on and on about parents and their responsibilities in raising kids.Just wanted to point out that there are hundreds of factors out there as to why people fudge the laws...it's the old "it's only a white lie/fib", it's still a lie anyway you slice it, so yes theft is theft, but where is the line drawn, at what point do we educate the one's doing this to stop, in grade school, or after they are arrested???

Oh and it's not just the kids who are into downloading material....every age group is represented...

Good. That's exactly what I want to see. The entertainment biz is mostly
made up of phoney hypocrite wannabe leftists and marxists whose
belief is that private property should be abolished for the rest of
us while they live like kings. They are the main funding arm for the
Democratic party and Pro-Islamist antisemitic fascist bullshit.

Only when their own bank accounts suffer do they whine about
so-called intellectual property. If they had our nuclear secrets,
they would publish it all claiming "freedom of press"

P2P'rs are exercising freedom of speech. Robbing the RIAA is
an act of political speech, protected by the first amendment.

Hmm how would the cheeky little clauses they put in their disclaimers affect their liability in court?e.g. something like 'By checking on this dinky lil box here you agree that you will not post any kind of illegal content here..'It's suprising how little action is taken against sites as well..given how easy they are to find..oh well..and er,who's oprah?
