If Google went bust...

had a convo with a mate, and this topic was brought up, so thought i'd post it here and get some discussion happening about it.

What do you think would happen if Google went bust and there site closed down?

Would the web come to a screaming stop?
Would life go on and some other search company simply pickup where google left off?

Lets face it Google don't just do search anymore and its the main starting point for so many Web users.

Many rely on Google for income though products such as ADSENCE and search results.

So what do you think would happen.?

Google is just a company..
Let's face it.. if for example Lycos became 'the searchengine' everybody would be over in a year or two..

I remember before Google when Altavista used to be the nr. 1..

Did you read the article in Fortune magazine about Google? Basically it is a major company that is trying keep its dot-com era atmosphere (innovation, relaxed workplace, creativity), while juggling all of it's new big business responsibilities. Imagine working for Microsoft or Apple in the beginning, back when they weren't all about the money.

Anyway I think Google is here to stay, especially if they can successfully dive into the software business.
