    LCD Monitors

    Hi you all,
I am a big gamer, and I am in the market of purchasing my first LCD Panel monitor. I always stuck to my CRT, but I think its time to retire my old friend. Well, I was looking for a monitor that is great for gaming. I did some research prior to posting on this forum. This is what I would like:

    19inch
    Contrast ratio at least 1000:1
Response time at least : 4mns

From what I read I came to the conclusion that those two specs, are what really determine the sharpness for the monitor. I do have a budget, and I would like to keep it under $400. Does anyone have any input?

20" dell for $289. just announced yesterday i believe. not sure if it fits your criteria but i'm sure it'd fit your budget for a 20", screamin deal.

Thank you all. I think I am going to wait until thanks giving, because then all the sales are going to come up.

i don't think you're gonna find another 20" for $289 or $231 if you send in the rebate.
no reason to wait for thanksgiving or a month.

Ok, I been reading and researching about LCD monitors since I posted. I came with 2 monitors that I really like. They are as follows..........

    Samsung............

    OR

    View Sonic...........

I am about Quality and not so much as price. I would hate to purchase something average and change within 1 year or so...

    Thanks.........

One thing I would recommend is you check what the manufacturer's warranty terms are, particularly regarding dead pixels.

I got the view sonic VX922 (same viewsonic listed as above) when my CRT died and I have been very very happy with it. The response time is well within your parameters (and at the time I searched was one of the best) at 2ms. It looks like its at 269.99 at the moment, but I'd keep checking back, I got it for around 220 from new egg a few months back when they had a special...
There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect...There is no escape from it, we are forever slaves to it. Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the 'why'. 'Why' is what separates us from them, you from me. 'Why' is the only real social power, without it you are powerless.

As you say you are into gaming, you might like to check the reviews at FiringSquad.com, if you have not already done so?

The dead pixel and stuck sub-pixel issue is still to be considered. If you buy online/mail order then you are not as certain of what you are getting as buying instore, and checking it first.......... even though you will get it cheaper.

This is a strange issue, as manufacturers will sell their products as "Class 1" in some markets, and "Class 2" in others.

Please do not get me wrong here, I am not criticising any particular manufacturer (apart from Sony..........but that is another story), as it is not easy to make something with almost 4,000,000 transistors behind the screen that is 100% perfect.

Hello all, hope everybody had a happy holidays. I been doing some research on an lcd monitor. As you can notice that I been really reading about the following lcd monitors. I play alot of Fifa 2007, Madden 2007, Battlefield 2042, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and Flight Simulator. Display means alot to me and thats why I still have my CRT. I came to a conclusion for the following monitor. If some one please shed some light for me, and let me know which one I should purchase, or suggest another model:

    1. NEC MultiSync 940 GX2

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824002122

    2. ViewSonic VP930B

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116365

    3. ViewSonic VX922

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116375

    4. Samsung 971P

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001086

    5. Samsung 931C

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001085

I been reading alot of the Viewsonic VX922, and alot of people like it for games, but I am worried about the contrast ratio being 650:1 and that worries me a bit for web browsing and so forth. If anyone will please help me with my confusion.

    Thank you,

The thing is that my CRT is taking up to much space. I opened a new office at home and its hard to keep organize. When do you think the LCD are going to go BANG?
