Office2k - excel error message

I have a user who always gets an error message only when closing Excel. Either a new template or an existing template. It only happens when you close excel.

The error message says, "Microsoft Excel for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Then I have tried repair. The problem persists and there are no add-ins either.

Some help please, maybe there are some registry keys that need to be deleted.

Start\run\type "eventvwr.msc" without quotes

Select application and look for the little X's, click on one and read it's event info. As it's excel, you may be able to go directly to their website and get a description of the error type and fix if there is one, it may be you need to update Office 2000.

Hmm... So you just ran the program as an admin? I'm pretty sure this user is an Admin on the computer.

Newer outlook??

That is the only version of Office on the Machine which is office 2000.

And Outlook 2003 is being used.

OS is Windows XP Pro.

Documents are being accessed from the local hard drive. It doesn't really matter, error only appears when you close Excel.

Sounds like a VB issue...I have had this with multiple versions of office installed...and yes outlook is considered office.

I currently run Access 87
Work and Excel 2000
Outlook 2003

I have a hunch that Outlook was installed BEFORE Excel 2000.


You may be able to fix this by removing all MS Office programs...restarting...and then installing the MS office programs back in order.

Oldest first....

So basically remove Office and Outlook...restart the machine and then add Office 2000...the Outlook.

May work....off to find some references for you

Is the Excel part of an office suite??

If so which one...Small Business...Professional etc?? or just excel and no other office products??

Yeah... that really could be almost anything. Click "view details" and it will probably at least tell you which module is causing it.

Just out of curiosity, can you create a new user account and see if you get the same problem?
