Thread: Should reputations be disabled?

  1. #41
My vote... get rid of 'em..

Although my vote probably won't mean that much because I don't frequent AO anymore, but I just don't really see what rep points are doing for the site. While I was never an extremely active member, I was on AO daily for several years after joining in 2001. I witnessed first hand the alliances, the abuse, the mindless posting just to receive points, get the greenies and look cool. Rep points now just seem like a band-aid for Antipoints - almost like saying "well, we can't have Antipoints now so let's do this rep points thing." But it just doesn't seem to mean anything... So why have 'em?

every vote counts precisely the same. It's an anonymous poll. There is no way of knowing who voted for what, unless one posts about it.

Hey shut up Mav. I couldn't care less if they were tattooed on my head. Swear to God I don't.

And anyway, I remember those mindless posts your talking about - and I wasn't a wussy lurking in the dark. I was out there in the AP fight - fighting the good fight. Swear to God I was. So hey next time you have an opinion, just...

    Hold on....

    Shut up Randy I'm coming

Sorry Mav, I've gotta go. Let me know if you know anyone that wants to buy a boat.

I know this is going to sound pretty crazy in a world so technologically evolved, but is it possible to leave it up to the members of the forum? Just make it an option in the user cp...

So if you don't want them, disable them! Or if you do like them, keep em!

Not currently an option with this software. I don't even know if it's an option in the latest version, which we will be upgrading to at some point relatively soon.

    Okay, just wondering. =)

Then just make every member tattoo it on their forehead...

I don't think I could afford the airfare involved.

Just send me the cash, I'll make sure everyone who wanted that has a red dotted forhead somehow.

The system as it is now needs to go.

I do like the reputation/antipoints/whatever system.

Honestly, it needs to go back to the old interface. I don't see the rep being used as much anymore, thereby making it somewhat irrelevant as it is.
Real security doesn't come with an installer.
