Nope, never heard of it...
But...
A checksum is:
a value that is used to check the integrity of data. Checksums are generated by a function that is dependent upon the data in ...
(first definition from Google - "define:checksum”)
opt-out means to "get out of"...
and a quick search for "OPT-Out" yields many results, one being an online business that :
…created this web site to make it as easy as possible for you to opt-out of having your personal information shared and sold by the companies you interact with…
(from http://opt-out.cdt.org/)
So – I’m a little confused… maybe you could elaborate a little? I mean, it's sort of like saying "Anyone ever heard off a checksum called Green Beans?"
I don't get it...

ty for the references ill keep them in mind, i dont want to sound like im gonna be attempting to hack into this site. but i heard myspace uses OPT-out algorithms, or some sort of encryption on the userID, or friendID.

You Didnt...... until just then....
Perhaps its just a program for doing checksums called Opt Out? Much like the beloved MD5 Summer?

Probably nothing to do with it? but I do recall there was some fuss a while back regarding "opt-out" and "opt-in" approaches to handling the serving of targeted advertising?
I think that myspace and facebook handle them differently.
Is that what you are talking about?

Hi
Short answer:
I never heard of a checksum called "opt-out".
Also, as far as I know, there is no mechanism or technique
called "opt-out" with respect to checksums.
No comments on the 'security' of myspace, facebook et al.
Broader view, just because it's interesting:
opt-int/opt-out[nice definition: 1] has a variety of implications,
starting from software engineering up to laws, regulations and compliance.
opt-in
requires action or affirmation by an individual for inclusion. default: exclusion
opt-out
requires action or affirmation for exclusion. default: inclusion
Facebook et al:
As nihil said, there was an issue with facebook[2]
a couple of months ago - they established an opt-out issue for marketing
purposes (default: inclusion).
Mailing lists:
Usually, a double opt-in mechanism is applied (confirmation mail) with an
opt-out possibility (beware of spam-mail opt-out though ...)
Spam-Filtering:
"Grey listing" is some kind of double opt-in mechanism. If
applied correctly, spam mails can be reduced up to 90%. Well, currently ...
WebForms:
Often opt-in question are pre-set with yes (affirmation), which is
questionable practice by law in some countries (e.g. germany IIRC).
Sometime, opt-out questions are pre-set with no (ie. inclusion!), which also
is questionable practice.
Cheers

I would say wherever it was read, that would be what it is pertaining to. Ya.
