Hi unvi$ible,
but friend of mine just dropped his pc which every time he plays video files (avi) gets blue screen of death.
By that I assume that you mean that your friend "dropped it in for you to have a look at", rather than physically releasing it from a height?
OK, apart from the detailed specifications, here are a few more ideas and questions for your next post:
1. Is this a desktop or laptop?
2. Has this always happened or is it recent?
3. Has he updated drivers for his sound and video recently?
4. Has he updated the motherboard firmware/BIOS?
5. Is there anything in the event logs relating to his attempts to run AVI files?
6. Will it run other types of audio-visual/media files?
7. Has he tried another player?
8. Does this happen every time, or only with some files/media?
9. Has he downloaded new codecs?
10. What is the exact message on the BSOD (you may have to go into the BIOS and disable the restart on error option to get this to display for long enough for you to read it )?
11. Has he made any hardware changes (video card, sound card, speakers)?
12. Does this happen with files that are run from external media or from files on the hard drive, or both?
Cheers,

hi Nihil
Windows Xp Version 2002 Service pack 2, AMD Athlon5200+ 2 GIG Memory (800),
NVIDIA GFORCE 8500GT with updated driver 07/10/2008.gigabyte motherboard.
All movies are watched from hard disk.
Problem has started after 2-3 months-pc is 6 months old.
Dvd ad4 20a4p.Video files are ati files. He uses jet audio and windows player to play it too-same problem.
Codecs are ones which comes with jet audio xbvid mpeg-4.
i done virus scan, addaware scan, spybot scan, i updated video card driver it was one from 2007 -same problem.
i couldnt catch up error message but its something like this "i_rql_no less then_equal"
Ilooked into event viewer- service control manager 7034 and another one is system error 1003.They repeat few times, probably when system crashes.
Nothing in hardware has been changed and no drivers have been updated apart from video card i did today.
System is only 6 months old.
i will look into few things but i think of software conflict/problem.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/19...ess-equal-quot and this http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?t=53947
i managed to find this so far.will try this tomorrow:
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
Ok found this too:

i managed to get error number:
Stop 0x0000000A(0X00000016,0X0000001C,0X00000000,0X805023B2)IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

What about .wmv .mov .mpg files? Will they play alright?
If so, you might reinstall the codecs. Search for divx codecs, and install those.
Got this from MS' website:
This error usually occurs after the installation of a buggy device driver, system service, or BIOS.
Might try reinstalling the video driver?

That's usually caused by a driver issue. Update the video driver.

Also, check the soundcard driver. With movies this obviously gets used too.

Do you get the problem if you boot into safe mode?
Does it have a sound card and video card or are they chipsets on the motherboard?
