I think that if a few of us did a bit of minor SEO.... some backlinks, etc.
We could have this site at the top of Google, Bing, etc.
Some social network attention would also bring members back.

Wishful thinking, there has been numerous things sent/told to the people in charge of this place and your talking to a brick wall.
to be honest it would be easier to round up the smart minds that frequent this place and collaborate to start our own.
who's in? i've got VB 4.0 & domain & 2yrs of hosting idling away.

Doesn't require any action from the powers that be.

I think this along with targeting Facebook would be a start. And it can't hurt to try. It'll at least do something as far as getting the word out. I was never good with SEO, but if someone tells me what to do, I'm all for doing it. Also, I think we should stop talking and start doing. It's great and all to think about what AO was, and who doesn't come to AO anymore, but that doesn't solve the problem. What does solve the problem is ideas like that of D0pp139an93r and soullessrider. But not only that. The ideas have to be acted on. So lets start doing these things. And if you don't like their ideas, come up with a better one.

Have fun with that then.
i will happily bet lot's of money that any suggestions that get's made outta this thread will hit a brick wall though.
Just like all the ideas for improvement in the moderator's area got the famous brick wall routine and recieved the famous "not approved" quicker then they were suggested.

I'm all for helping out starting a new site! Someone ought to set up an IRC server that we can get together on - anyone? I guess we could all go to Leapnode.net for the time being... I'm sure Microburn won't mind...

I'll donate an IRC server if for some reason y'all don't want to use Leapnode.
I've got a few servers doing nothing right now.

What do you all think has caused the lack of interest in AO? What could be done to bring activity back to the level of the glory days?
I miss this community... *sniffle*
Also - where do all the AOers hang out nowadays? Surely you're all still posting on other forums? Are there any IRC channels any of you frequent? I know I used to talk to a lot of AO members on microburn's site unerror.com, but he's done away with it and his new project freenode.net is even slower than this place...
I joined computerforum.com a few days ago, and it's alright for helping people w/ general computer questions, etc, but I'd like to find a new infosec forum that is as active as AO once was...
Questions? Comments? Things you'd like to think about?

Holy crap. This thread makes me sad. I haven't read much, if any of it. Stop complaining and post interesting topics to discuss. The most read/posted-to thread on this forum is just talking about how much it sucks! I wonder why we have gone downhill . If you were a newcomer, and saw this thread, would you feel like joining, posting, sticking around? The very members that make this forum great are all just complaining constantly.
Check some news sites, post interesting headlines, spark discussions, take sides that you normally wouldn't, just to stir people up.
Close this thread!
