Honestly, I forgot. The last two weeks have been pretty harsh with stuff going on here, not to mention I almost got wrecked a week ago when a Tire on the car shredded at 50 MPH throwing me around, so we had to get that taken care of and get new tires, and that doesn't include getting screwed by someone I've known since I was 12 years old pretty hard. I've been super busy with stuff here to the point I just forgot about it. I hadn't even checked my email much in like over a week. I'll probably have it ready this week though, I'm just dealing with an infection right now where the side of my mouth is all swelled up and it hurts like a Mofo.

Well even though I just recently joined, I for one like this place. I feel it is a little dormant, but you guys just need a little activity to bring it back, and lucky for you guys, I like to post frequently . Anywho, I like a close community, which AO definitely has, so from a new comer to you moldy oldies , you guys aren't half bad. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I just never even remember I have an account. I'll try to set something up so that PMs can reach me. I'm spending most of my time on other forums, frankly: More interested in other stuff than security.

Good to hear from you mate! and, given your recent attendance record, might I take this opportunity of wishing you a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2011

The truth of the matter is that the site does not provide value anymore. Why? Because it does not sit on the edge of what's really going on in security these days.

The "glory days" were because those who were on the cutting edge were able to express and share things without being censored by a large corporation with a legal department.

The term "when the big money shut em down" comes to mind.

Do any of you remember when you could actually post exploit code here and have it discussed and learned from? I do. Do you know what would happen if you did that today in the context of what's truly happening in the realm of security? You would be shown the BANNED sticker before you had a chance to hit "post".

Anyhow, like mentioned before, those who used to be core contributors here are still in touch...now, let's see if you can find out where we hang.

Oh you're just asking for it aren't you? Heh, so many things came to mind

Anyway, I too remember how things used to be. The yellow colors JP chose; "NO I didn't rip off BeOS!" lol, and the 25 new posts a day because, well... People were posting, you know, content, and as for the whole exploit code stuff, I brought that up already.

I told Joe and basically pointed out that much like the "Educational" Exploitation Films of the 1930s - 1950s, the movies were showing Vaginas and Boobies but got away with it because they said it was "Educational" and therefore not subject to the predecessor of the MPAA, even if half the audience were seedy perverts who just wanted to see a Pinkie.

That's a great way to BS your way around that whole legal ****; You tell them it's "Educational Only" and to ignore the guy masturbating in the third row, as he's just trying to see if his microscope shows the same tad pole looking load he just saw make a baby, and everyone leaves the theater seeing WAY more explicit material than the law / MPAA would EVER allow on the screen in a regular movie, because, hey, "This is educational" and, at that time, Dad's with 12 kids hadn't even seen most of that, because they waited around in the waiting room for someone to come tell them what kind of glow worm looking thing he got in the Delivery Room. I'm of course talking about those "Birth" Videos made back when the MPDA or whatever it was that came before the MPAA was around, and so to get nudity on screen, not only did they get away with it by saying it was an "Educational" Film, but all the perverts in the audience got to pretend they were respectable when they left, no matter how big of a tent they had lol.

Same thing here in a way; We all have Computers, but what Dad knows what actual exploit code looks like? He's got a computer, probably doesn't know what's lurking on the inside, or "When it's in the shop" so, you show him under that Educational banner, and everyone can BS their way around it. Exploitation Movie, Exploitation Code, close enough

And yea, seriously, that analogy is not only a good one, but since they both use the term "exploit", and the fact that a legal precedent was made with that wayyyyy back then, I'm pretty sure it could work.

I can't remember which post it was in, but someone was talking about posting actual code for exploits and things, and Joe was kind of iffy about it because he has a bunch of people in a 300 dollar suit to answer it if some jack ass blames this site for telling them how to do it, but, really, I've YET to see a Library closed down because some kid read about how Babies are made and knocked up his Girl Friend.

Information, is information. Libraries have to be pretty careful, yet I can go to the one near here and get a book on Punk Rock showing pictures of the "Trendy Clothing Shop" that the Sex Pistols got their name from, and the girl from that shop, and the other two, are fully nude. I think they dance around it with the "artistic nudity" thing, but again, most teenage boys renting that book don't care what statement they were trying to make, they just wanna see a nipple. And really, who's ever died from that? Hell before Baby formula, your life depended on seeing those things!

    Lol.

This post is slightly long, I admit, but WOW was I laughing and thinking "Damn that actually makes sense!" while typing it lol.

They usually are. And they seldom do.

But I know what you are saying.

I'm not up to speed on the laws of teh intarwebz, but it seems to me that if people are able to get child pornography with ease, then finding exploit code should be a piece of cake. And it probably is. I haven't really fooled with the security end of things since I was in college, aside from making sure my own site and network is secure. I will be interested in finding such a site coming up pretty quick - I need someone to pen-test my server (once I get the POS back up next week >.<).
