    Haha... your name suits you.

With the ease of leaking the information to Wikileaks, it makes you wonder how many people ARE leaking information to more dangerous groups.... We would never have a clue.

/* Edit: I didn't read spec's comment before posting this... so that is not what I meant by the name suiting you. */

So...why isn't Bradley Manning being charged with treason? You really
think you know better than Army JAG? Ellsberg was charged with espionage
in '71, but he publicly admitted releasing classified docs to the press as
well as certain Senators. It's not clear what military prosecutors have
on Manning, but he's going to be behind bars for decades barring a miracle.
What I can't figure out, and I suspect there are those here who may know,
is why and how a lowly PFC got access to so much classified material.

What bothers me about Wikileaks is this whole culture that's grown up
around the idea that "retribution" or "revenge" hacking is OK. Disagree
with the charges against Assange, but why try to bring down the Mastercard
or PayPal sites? That is already backfiring on some wannabe activists,
one of whom, a 16 year old, has been arrested by Dutch authorities for
participating in the current DDOS attacks. What does that have to do
with Assange personally? I don't know.

MLF - Wikileaks stands for everything that is evil in the universe. Visa, MC, and Paypal do nothing but good. Surprised you didn't know that. :-P

even the Chinese news is anti wikileaks
according to 新京报 (a Beijing newspaper)
    my own translation:
"Do not leak information to wikileaks. It is betraying you country."

think about it this way, if you leak information that puts your country in a bad light, you are damaging core national interests(your nation's prestige). You could also put fellow citizens in danger by leaking information.

He'll release a terabyte of documents outing gay troops. And they'll have to drop 90% of the military because of the don't ask don't tell policy.

    my 2 cents

Assange is a journalist, as such he writes, releases information, hero or criminal neither, a freelance hack doing a job. He may be a rapist, let his trial decide that.

The criminals in this episode are the ones that either leaked or allowed to leak. Manning deserves the full justice of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the death penalty. He broke the faith with his fellow servicemen/women. Every US Serviceman/woman is schooled in the UCMJ within weeks of entrance to the service, he knew what he was doing was wrong.

People like Manning, John Anthony Walker (google it, he was really bad news) deserve to die for aiding and abetting the enemy.

I served in the Navy for 7 years, I have a daughter joining in 2011.

Big Surprise! I can't imagine the Chinese wanting to censor anyone. They are all about freedom of information.

Very true. I don't think they went after the journalists during the whole 'deepthroat' fiasco.
