And a reboot to a machine that auto boots into a recovery console would achieve....? Believe it or not, there exist problems where installing XP and rebooting aren't going to fix it. And also, the fact that I posted back that I'd fixed the issue already, without installing XP, kind of makes it moot.
Yes, I fixed a Computer without installing XP on it.
