And a reboot to a machine that auto boots into a recovery console would achieve....? Believe it or not, there exist problems where installing XP and rebooting aren't going to fix it. And also, the fact that I posted back that I'd fixed the issue already, without installing XP, kind of makes it moot.
Yes, I fixed a Computer without installing XP on it.

Hmmm, I've never used XP. What was so great about it?
I went from Win2k and Win2k3 (configured as a workstation, not a server) to Win7.
I like Win7. It is much nicer than the previous versions of Windows.

I was mainly just giving gore crap. XP was ok... once SP3 came out, it was somewhat stable. I think Win7 is a much better OS, but personally I prefer Linux to Windows any day. I keep a couple of windows partitions handy for playing Call of Duty, and watching Netflix... The lack of Linux support for Netflix really bugs me.

I fixed it for you.
XP would run to smooth, so he needs to run something that will keep him busy.

Well if games were supported on any flavour of Unix I would seriously consider moving from a windows orientated desktop ... why is the support not there? PC games come on MAC and PC and thats it. I also dont want to have to Wine anything either.

Windows 2003 server is XP ...only server version with some tweaking
Love Windows 7 64bit

It wasn't quite XP. The Win2k3 32 bit version was happy with 16GB memory and 8 real processors (my current desktop). There were many other functional restrictions in XP that were not present in 2k3.
I like Win7 64 bit much better than 2k3.

Well the look and feel of 2003 Server is the same as XCP...as is the file and directory structure...the base OS is XP.
I do realize the the DataCentre and Enterprise editions may have some extended core functionality ...such as the extended memory use etc
But is still XP..IMHO
